Mom-of-three Jessica Alba is teaching her kids life lessons through her new (and very first!) children's cook, A Bear to Share.

The actress wrote the piece, which debuted on October 26, alongside Kelly Sawyer Patricof and Norah Weinstein, the co-CEOs of Baby2Baby, a nonprofit organization she's worked with for years.

The Dark Angel lead shares daughters Honor, 13, and Haven, 10, as well as son Hayes, 3, with husband Cash Warren, but she pulled from her own childhood experiences when creating the book.

"I grew up with parents who worked three jobs each and lived paycheck to paycheck," she told PEOPLE. "I started acting at a young age so I probably have a different understanding and view than maybe a lot of people in my circumstance as far as what it means to struggle and how you want to be treated if you ever were in that circumstance."

The cute read follows young Tiana, who is completely in love with her teddy bear despite some wear and tear. She then receives a brand new plush toy, but instead of keeping both, she offers up the new stuffed animal to her friend Timothy who didn't have any himself.

"I'm hoping that it will help children understand that not everyone is the same and that you — no matter what age — can help others out," said The Honest Company founder.

Baby2Baby "provides children living in poverty with diapers, clothing and all the basic necessities that every child deserves." After a decade in business, they've donated more than 190 million items to kids in need.

"Our mission with Baby2Baby is to provide basic necessities for families in need and encouraging empathy and compassion in parents and children is more important now than ever," Alba insisted. "This book will help spread Baby2Baby's message of giving back and bring awareness to the important cause of providing children with the essentials they deserve."

A portion of proceeds from each purchase will be donated to the nonprofit. Find out more about the book by clicking here!
