After previously teasing glimpses of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie The Odyssey, Universal Pictures finally dropped a brand new trailer on May 4.

The highly anticipated clip was unveiled on the recent episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The trailer featured the main cast, including Matt Damon as Odysseus, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and others.

A tweet shows Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey trailer

Shot using new IMAX technology, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is set to release on July 17, 2026, in theaters.

But ahead of the big screen splash, netizens got a glimpse of the trailer on the late-night show. And it seems fans are going gaga over the literary epic.

The trailer offered a glimpse into Christopher Nolan’s take on Homer’s legendary tale, while featuring Charlize Theron as Circe and Robert Pattinson as Antinous, scheming to seize Ithaca from Odysseus.

The trailer also teased the looming threat of the Cyclops.

In addition, audiences also witnessed intense sequences from the Trojan War, alongside a chilling confrontation with the Laestrygonians, a terrifying race of cannibal giants.

And altogether, the preview promised a thrilling ride into the dramatic retelling of Homer’s epic.

Soon enough, netizens took to social media to share their opinions on the same. As has become common with Nolan releases, people quoted the upcoming movie as “absolute cinema” from Nolan.

Further, one user quipped, “Who else is counting down the days until July 17? This trailer is insane.” while another noted, “goosebumps be rising all over my body from this trailer alone.”

Others added, “I'm already stupidly hyped by this trailer. Nolan doing myth feels just perfect!!”.

A few users noted, “THEY DROPPED THIS SH*T AT MIDNIGHT LIKE IT WAS NOTHING AND IT LOOKS PEAK.” While one shared, “This movie is going to be generational.”

Following the trailer drop, a few netizens also noted, “This is going to be a cinematic masterpiece that should truly be experienced only in an IMAX setting.”

However, a few seemed confused with, “Why is everyone doing American accents!? Even the British actors??”

The Odyssey Trailer Topples the 2026 Met Gala Craze

Meanwhile, as netizens appear to be losing their minds over The Odyssey trailer, part of it seems to be because of its powerful look at Homer’s epic.

Turns out, Christopher Nolan has avoided heavy CGI and has instead focused on real locations and practical effects to bring the story to life.

In doing so, the grand visuals and intense storytelling have quickly captured global attention, even overshadowing the buzz around the Met Gala 2026.

While the fashion event was already marred by the controversies and boycott calls against Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez, Nolan's trailer drew viewers' attention away.

Meanwhile, as conversations shift from red carpet fashion to epic storytelling, Nolan’s The Odyssey prepares to be one of the most anticipated releases.
