Barry Keoghan is finally setting the record straight on his breakup with Sabrina Carpenter.

After months of whispers, side-eyes and wild cheating rumors tied to their split, the actor finally addressed the matter during an appearance on the Tuesday, April 28, episode of Benny Blanco and Lil Dicky’s podcast Friends Keep Secrets.

The two were first linked in late 2023. However, by December 2024, their relationship was over.

That's when the internet came up with its own version of why, where they believed Keoghan was unfaithful. Now, the actor has cleared the air and shut down speculations.

During the podcast, Keoghan finally addressed the infidelity rumors surrounding his breakup with Carpenter.

After months of getting trolled on social media over cheating speculations, Keoghan claimed that the narrative is fake.

“I feel in a safe space to say this, but I have been avoiding stuff. I came off Instagram and social profiles. I’ve stopped going to events. I’ve stopped just socializing,” Keoghan said.

He then explained how he had to step away from the internet due to backlash fueled by a narrative that was "not true."

“It’s because there was a narrative out there that was never really sort of even spoken on — a narrative that’s not true — and I never confirmed or said anything about it,” he stated.

Further addressing the cheating rumors, Keoghan noted that he isn't stating facts to earn sympathy.

“I’m not asking for people to become my fan and like me because that’s not normal. I’m asking for people to stop assuming and also stop jumping on this narrative and attacking me and dragging me down in any way you can. I’m not saying this for pity. Why is it cool to hop on and beat someone up?” Keoghan said.

Keoghan and Carpenter first made headlines after they were spotted having a “romantic dinner” in Brentwood, California, in December 2023.

However, it wasn't until February 2024 that the couple went public with their romance by appearing together at W’s Grammys after-party.

Gradually appearing on each other's social media accounts and attending more events together, Carpenter and Keoghan became the ‘It couple’ of Hollywood.

In June 2024, Keoghan appeared in Carpenter’s Please Please Please music video, where the two played a criminal couple.

However, their on-and-off relationship finally hit the dead end in December 2024, when sources told People that “they've decided to take a break” on the one-year anniversary of their first date.

That's when people started wondering whether Carpenter's Please Please Please was a subtle dig at Keoghan.

In the track, she sings, “I beg you, don’t embarrass me,” leading people to pick sides and fuel infidelity rumors.

Eventually, some went overboard and started targeting Keoghan with harsh comments about his looks and acting.

This led Keoghan to step back from social media due to the trolling and lingering hatred.

Speaking to SiriusXM host Ben Harlum, Keoghan said, “There’s a lot of abuse [about] how I look, and it’s kind of past the point of, ‘Everyone goes through that’... It’s made me really go inside myself, not want to attend [events], not want to go outside.”
