Melania Trump addresses the Epstein connection

On April 9, 2026, Melania Trump spoke at the White House and responded to rumors about her connection with Jeffrey Epstein. She clearly denied all claims and said, “The lies linking me with Jeffrey Epstein need to end today.”

“The lies linking me with Jeffrey Epstein need to end today,” she said. ”I’ve never been friends with Epstein. I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice, Maxwell. My email reply to Maxwell cannot be categorized as anything more than casual correspondence.”

Trump added that she was never friends with Epstein and never had any relationship with him or his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. She further explained that a 2002 email she sent to Maxwell was only casual and should not be seen as proof of any close connection.

However, after the emails were made public by the DOJ on January 30, they raised questions. In response to the First Lady's mail, as Maxwell called her “Sweet Pea” and agreed to call her soon, it seemingly suggested they had spoken before.

Therefore, the mails made their fair share of rounds on the Internet, mocking and accusing Melania Trump, alongside her husband and others mentioned in the Epstein files. However, there had not been much recent pressure on Trump to respond to it during a White House speech. She did so anyway.

Jimmy Kimmel Offers a Fresh Perspective on the First Lady's Action

Jimmy Kimmel believes there is a reason behind Melania Trump's Epstein speech at the White House. The late-night host, while questioning the timing of her statement, shared his thoughts on why the First Lady might have brought it up at this moment.

Kimmel asked why she chose to speak now, especially when the issue had quieted down in recent weeks. Kimmel suggested the timing may be connected to recent global tensions, including discussions around Donald Trump and actions involving Iran.

“Why is this happening today? He spent the past six weeks trying to bomb this Epstein story out of the headlines. Two days after the ceasefire, she puts it right back on top,” Kimmel said. “She must really hate him. I don’t know how else to explain it,”

Kimmel joked that the issue had been pushed out of headlines earlier, but Melania Trump’s speech brought it back. Kimmel claimed people inside the White House were surprised by her decision, and alleged that none of them knew the First Lady would talk about the Epstein files.

“He didn’t know she was going to do it before she did it, which shows you just how smoothly things are running over there. For whatever reason, she didn’t ask, she didn’t give him a heads up. She just went right out in front of the cameras and fired away,” Kimmel said.
