‘Very Serious Threats’: JD Vance and Erika Kirk Cancel TPUSA Event Following WHCA Dinner Shooting
Following the recent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) dinner, the political climate in the United States has gotten tense.
Lawmakers across the country are now facing heightened security concerns, with officials reexamining safety measures at public events.
In addition, fears of a possible follow-up attack have already affected schedules.
Vice President JD Vance has canceled his planned appearance at an upcoming Turning Point USA event, where he was expected to join Erika Kirk, the organization's CEO.
It seems leaders are growing cautious about the uncertain environment, and are trying to prevent further threats.
Turning Point USA Event Rescheduled
An X post on the postponement of Turning Point USA's Iowa campus tour.
According to RadarOnline, Vance was scheduled to appear at a Turning Point USA campus tour event at Iowa State University on Thursday, April 30.
However, in the wake of the WHCA dinner chaos, he has canceled his appearance at the event.
Vance's scheduled appearance was cancelled on Monday, April 28.
The organization cited “unexpected congressional votes” in Washington, D.C., as the reason for the cancellation.
Previously, the vice president was expected to appear alongside Erika at the event.
Meanwhile, following the sudden change of plans, organizers were exploring options of rescheduling the appearance later during the semester.
However, Iowa State officials were unable to find a suitable date due to the upcoming final exams.
Therefore, Turning Point USA is reportedly planning to bring the event back to the campus during the fall semester.
'Terrible Reflection on the State of Reality'
While Vance cancelled his Turning Point USA appearance alongside Erika after the WHCA shotting incident, the 37-year-old widow of Charlie Kirk has been cancelling events since earlier this month.
She cancelled one of her events at the University of Georgia after assassination threats were made against her.
Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for Turning Point USA, addressed the sudden change of plans at the campus event, explaining why the 37-year-old could not attend the same.
According to Mediaite, Kolvet said, while speaking on stage, that Erika was forced to withdraw from the event due to serious safety concerns.
“For those of you wondering why I don't have really flowing, long, blonde hair right now, I'm on stage here instead of our friend Erika Kirk, because unfortunately, she has received some very serious threats in her direction, which is terrible,” he said.
“It's a terrible reflection on the state of reality and the state of the country,” Kolvet added.
Meanwhile, according to Us Weekly, about a week later, Kirk's security team reportedly admitted they were not able to fully protect her.
“The specific threats were targeting her and her ability to get to and from the event. Her security team felt that they could not protect her life,” the team said.
"So as you can imagine, for a mother of two young kids who just lost her husband in the way that she did, she felt that she had to take her security team’s advice. I think anybody would,” they added.
