Vice President JD Vance's political career could potentially suffer amid President Donald Trump's sinking favorability, a recent report suggests.

According to a Zeteo report, people close to Trump are concerned that the president's weakening support system amid the U.S.-Iran war and the rising cost of living will ultimately drag down Vance's career as well.

"Trump is imploding, and he's probably going to take JD down with him unless there's a course correction," a source close to Trump told the outlet.

JD Vance at Odds With Donald Trump Over Iran War?

Lately, Trump's stance on the U.S. war against Iran has led many of his previous supporters to critique him and his administration. Even Vance had reportedly argued against starting a "massively expensive" war against the Islamic Republic.

A New York Times report published on April 7 stated that Vance was the only and yet the loudest voice within the White House that opposed the launching of a full-scale strike against Iran. The 41-year-old reportedly described it as "a huge distraction of resources," and "massively expensive."

In March, two sources told Zeteo that Trump privately made sarcastic remarks about Vance to his inner circle and criticized Vance's stance on the Iran war.

But then, Vance was reportedly told to defend Trump's war in the Middle East, even as gas prices continued to skyrocket in the U.S. and abroad.

The vice president also visited Pakistan to begin negotiations with Iran, but the talks did not yield any favorable results.

Trump then sent Vance to Hungary to endorse and support the country's leader, Viktor Orbán, who had been in power for 16 years. However, Orbán lost power in a landslide defeat to Peter Magyar in the country's parliamentary elections.

JD Vance's Favorability Takes a Hit

While Trump finds himself under mounting scrutiny over the U.S.-Iran war, his second-in-command is reportedly experiencing dwindling popularity amongst the American citizens.

According to CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten, Vance's favorability has fallen 21 points since January 2025, when Vance took office as vice president. The trend follows Trump's own declining approval rating.

"JD Vance is not doing too hot to trot at this point," Enten said, according to the Daily Beast. "Down he goes! JD Vance getting dragged down along with the President of the United States," Enten added.

It is not surprising that Vance's plummeting popularity has raised concerns about the future of his political career among Trump's inner circle, given that criticism against the president's administration has been growing recently.

Several former Trump loyalists, MAGA voices and conservative activists have also called out the president over his escalating violent rhetoric and the Iran war.

Amid the increasing backlash, what does Vance's future in politics hold? Let us know in the comments.
