Prince William’s ‘Desperate’ Bid to Scrub a Resurfaced Toilet Photo From the Internet
An old image of Prince William from the early 2000s has resurfaced online, sparking fresh scrutiny over the future king's public image.
The photo shows him on his hands and knees scrubbing a toilet while he was living in the remote Chilean village of Tortel.
At the time, the moment was seen as a sign of humility and hands-on work.
However, insiders now claim that William is reportedly getting desperate to see the image erased from the internet.
'He Really Did Clean the Lavatories'

Back in the early 2000s, when William was 18, he had taken a gap year following his A-levels.
He then traveled to the village of Tortel in southern Chile to volunteer with Raleigh International.
During the trip, he lived in basic shared housing, helped build infrastructure and taught English. The photograph, which shows him crouched over a toilet wearing rubber gloves, was taken during that stay.
The image circulated periodically over the years before largely disappearing from public view. Its recent reappearance on social media has prompted discussion within royal circles as William prepares for his future role as the king.
Malcolm Sutherland, who led the expedition, praised William's attitude during the trip.
"William coped very well, and what struck me about him was how normal he was," Sutherland said, adding, "He said he wanted to be treated like everyone else, and he was."
He further noted, “When you saw him cleaning the toilets, it wasn't for the cameras; he really did clean the lavatories.”
In addition, one palace source told RadarOnline that despite the current unease, the photograph offers valuable insight into the prince's character.
"Experiences like William's gap year were formative for him. They show a willingness to step outside privilege and engage with the world in a meaningful way — even if, years later, those moments take on a different significance when viewed through the lens of his future role," the source said.
'Cuts Against the Carefully Managed Image of a Future Monarch'
Sources familiar with the royal family said there is concern within royal circles about how the image may be perceived as William's public role becomes more prominent.
"There is a growing feeling that this is the kind of image William would rather not have circulating so widely at a time when his public role is becoming more defined. It's a very human moment, but it cuts against the carefully managed image of a future monarch," one source said.
"William may well get desperate to have this image scrubbed from the Internet. It's difficult to do, but not impossible, especially with the PR and online resources at the royal family's disposal," another source added.
A third source said, "As he moves closer to eventually becoming king, there's a heightened awareness of how he is perceived. Something like this — being photographed on his knees cleaning a toilet — risks being taken out of context and turned into something that distracts from his current responsibilities."
Further, William’s toilet photograph has also reignited discussions about the monarchy’s evolving image.
"There's always been a balance between relatability and mystique when it comes to the royal family. Images like this highlight that tension — they show William as grounded and willing to do ordinary tasks, but they can also jar with traditional expectations of royal presentation," the source said.
