Meghan Markle humiliated after lack of crowd at her Geneva speech
‘No One Wants to Listen’: Meghan Markle Mocked Over Sparse Crowd During Emotional Geneva Speech
Meghan Markle’s sudden and solo trip to Geneva is not only facing comparisons to Kate Middleton's two-day Italy visit, but the Duchess is also being humiliated for the sparse turnout at the memorial.
Markle made an emotional speech in Switzerland about kids’ online safety.
However, unlike how Middleton was greeted by people in Italy, images and videos from the event showed that very few people had gathered to hear the Duchess speak.
This led Markle's team to fight back saying the lack of crowd was actually due to security reasons. But netizens aren't buying.
Meghan Markle's Team Makes Security Excuse for Lack of Crowd
Meghan Markle speaks of children’s online safety
Meghan Markle delivered an emotional speech in Geneva while opening The Lost Screen Memorial at Place des Nations.
It's set to honor the children who lost their lives due to online violence and digital harm, and prioritize children's online protection.
The memorial featured 50 illuminated lightboxes displaying the lock screen photos of children remembered by their families.
Meghan Markle joined global health leaders and ministers at the event hosted by the Archewell Foundation and the World Health Organization.
In her speech, the Duchess said the memorial represented “children” and not “statistics” or “data points.”
She spoke about the dangers children face online and criticized the idea that technological progress should come before safety.
“Behind me stands The Lost Screen Memorial. Not statistics. Not avatars. Not data points. Children,” Markle said in her speech.
“Each name belonged to a child who was loved beyond measure. A child whose laughter once filled a kitchen.”
“Whose shoes once waited by a front door. Whose future once felt limitless… For too long, we have accepted a dangerous bargain: that modern connection must come at the cost of the innocence of childhood. That innovation excuses injury.”
Continuing her speech for around 10 minutes, Markle warned against ignoring the impact of digital harm on young people.
Overall, while she delivered a serious message, videos and photos from the event showed that seats remained largely empty at the event.
Soon, as critics began to mock the low turnout, her team reportedly explained that some seating areas remained empty because of security arrangements.
Netizens Mock Markle Over Sparse Crowds Unlike Kate Middleton
Netizens compare people’s support for Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton
Meanwhile, despite claims from Meghan Markle’s team that the reduced crowd was due to security measures, social media users rejected the explanation.
The empty seats during her speech at The Lost Screen Memorial event, not only caused humiliation, but also sparked comparisons to Kate Middleton.
Netizens compared Markle’s low turnout to the public reception recently received by Catherine, Princess of Wales during her visit to Italy.
According to images shared online, the future Queen was greeted warmly by people in Reggio Emilia and had a successful trip as she championed children's education and welfare.
But on the other hand, Markle suffered a major flop during her allegedly copied solo Switzerland trip, just a day after Middleton returned to England.
Therefore, netizens mocked, “The Sussex Squad is claiming the lack of crowds was due to security… Here are people driving and walking by. There were also a lot of tourists taking pictures of the big chair behind Meghan.”
Meanwhile, another mocked with brutal sarcasm, "The massive crowds that turned out for Meghan Markle today in Switzerland. I hope she felt safe poor thing.”
While someone added, “Was this event planned way before Catherine's trip to Italy or is this a quick trip put together by her PR team to counter Princess of Wales. This is embarrassing.”
Some users also argued that the event location was easily accessible to the public, and therefore, if people wanted, they could have attended the event.
“There is a tram stop just in front of the Palais. It's very easy to get there. So not even the commuters were curious enough to stop and listen.” one wrote.
Some users wrote, “They've never been to Geneva then, as she is set up outside the main bus terminal and the broken red chair. That isn't in the UN facility its outside it. As the UN building and area is closed to public. If the public wanted to attend they could.”
Others chimed, “Just admit it no one wants to listen to this tiresome, self-centered woman.”
