During her four-day trip to Australia with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle opened up about the harsh reality of online hate, calling herself “the most trolled person in the entire world.”

Speaking at Swinburne University of Technology, she shared how years of online criticism have affected her.

However, her remarks sparked a reaction opposite to what she would have hoped for. Instead of being able to provoke thoughts or earn sympathy, her claims were questioned and criticized by many.

Markle's attempt to highlight online abuse ended up drawing even more attention and scrutiny.

Meghan Markle speaks about online bullying and being trolled on social media.

Traveling to Australia on a brief tour, Harry and Markle balanced official engagements with talks focused on mental health and social media.

Their visit included cultural events and meetings with community groups, making it one of the most high-profile stops in their international schedule.

In between, the duo went to the Swinburne University of Technology, where Markle spoke about her personal experience with online abuse.

Using the platform to encourage young people to be aware of how social media can affect mental health, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex addressed online bullying.

Markle said, “For now, 10 years, every day for 10 years, I have been bullied and attacked. And I was the most trolled person in the entire world. I'm still here.”

Discussing how online trolling affects a human, and why people should be more careful on the internet, Markle emphasized that despite the criticism, she has continued to move forward.

Further, Harry supported Australia’s rule banning social media use for those under the age of 16, calling the move “epic” and an important step toward protecting younger users online.

While things seemingly went smoothly for the duo during the speech, sources revealed that Markle's comments drew a rather unwanted response online.

'The Reaction Has Become More Pronounced, Not Less'

Immediately after Markle's comments went viral, it triggered a strong reaction online.

Sources told RadarOnline that the response has been largely critical and, at times, mocking.

According to insiders, netizens’ response to Markle's comments reflected the same behavior she was calling out.

“What was intended as a serious reflection on online abuse quickly became another focal point for the kind of behavior she was describing,” they said.

“The laughably ironic consequence of her saying she has been the world's most trolled person has been… more trolling. It's actually hilarious,” one sources stated.

Insiders noted that discussions surged as soon as she made the comments, and the situation highlighted how difficult it is to address online hostility, especially for public figures.

“The reaction has, in effect, mirrored the very dynamics she was describing, which makes the situation feel somewhat self-perpetuating,” an insider said.

They further added, “When high-profile individuals speak in absolute terms about their experiences, it can provoke a strong counter-reaction. In this case, some people have responded by questioning or even ridiculing the claim, which has only intensified the level of commentary directed at her.”

Another insider pointed out how netizens mostly questioned or ridiculed Markle's statement, which only increased the level of attention and criticism directed at her.

They added that her comments, instead of reducing negativity, may have unintentionally amplified the issue, thus creating a cycle where speaking about online abuse leads to more of it.

“Rather than dampening the conversation, Meghan's remarks about trolling have amplified it. The reaction has become more pronounced, not less. The more she speaks openly about the scale of online hostility she has faced, the more that very hostility appears to intensify, creating a feedback loop that is difficult to break,” they shared.
