Justin Trudeau’s Friends Fear Katy Perry Romance Is Ruining His Political Image: 'People Take Him Less Seriously'

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and pop star Katy Perry might be living the 'Teenage Dream,' but insiders warn that Trudeau is jeopardizing his political image with his budding romance.

Appearing as a plus-one to Perry rather than maintaining his polished political persona, sources believe that Trudeau is compromising his career potential.

Even the politician's close friends have reportedly noted how Trudeau’s lifestyle shift since partnering with Perry has raised eyebrows, with critics suggesting he is trying too hard to match the energy of a pop star.

However, the former Canadian Prime Minister seems unfazed by the situation.

After Trudeau attended Coachella with Perry -- sporting jeans, a T-shirt and a backward baseball cap -- sources close to him told RadarOnline how they feel he's ruining his image.

Reflecting on how the relationship “has totally transformed Justin's image,” insiders accused Trudeau of trying too hard to fit in with Perry.

“Sure, Katy has a ton of money and global fame, but Justin is a former head of state, and his name and face can open a lot of doors,” an insider stated.

“He came into this situation with a whole lot of credibility. It's weird that he's bending his lifestyle to fit Katy's and not the other way around... This relationship is still in its first year and it has totally transformed Justin's image,” the source added.

The duo first sparked romance rumors in the summer of 2025, and later went public with their relationship in October.

Ever since then, Trudeau has been accused of taking on the personality and fashion statement of a social media influencer.

However, despite the criticism and warnings, sources close to the former Canadian Prime Minister noted that Trudeau believes he can juggle this newfound lifestyle.

They believe that is the reason Trudeau took Perry to accompany him on a highly publicized diplomatic lunch in 2025 with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife.

“Justin thinks he can juggle being a voice of reason on the international stage and dating a larger-than-life personality like Katy, but that's not what's happening,” a source noted, adding, “People take him less seriously than they did a year ago, and he's not much more than a social media personality when they're together.”

Yet, since Trudeau looks happier than ever with Perry and the pop star is reportedly eager for them to become an international power couple, insiders noted that “he's too happy and in love to worry about” the damage to his reputation.

Sources warned, “If Katy and Justin don't work out in the long term, Justin is going to have a hard time recovering his good name.”

Meanwhile, Trudeau’s son Xav spoke about Perry, during an appearance on an episode of the Can't Be Censored podcast.

“She's super nice. She's super down to earth. She's great. I think that my dad's happy, so that's important,” he said.

While critics contemplate the long-term fallout of the relationship, the couple remains completely focused on their romance.
