Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau’s Coachella Appearance Called ‘Cringeworthy’ as Online Critics Roast Viral Moments

Pop star Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have reportedly been in a relationship since late 2025. The couple has an age gap of 13 years and comes from different backgrounds and has different past romantic histories. Nonetheless, the couple does not appear to care about such factors and focuses on enjoying their time together to the fullest. Most recently, the couple drew attention with their date night at Coachella.

According to The List, over the weekend, Perry and Trudeau attended the first session of Coachella, the annual desert music festival in California. She even documented the concert memories on her Instagram with a caption, “heat checkin’ these chickens,” referencing Justin Bieber’s hit pop number, Speed Demon.

The 13-slide post begins with Perry posing candidly in a playful video while she enjoyed a red Solo cup. It was followed by a glimpse of the essentials she carried with her to the concert, including sunglasses, lip balm, trail mix, a few $100 bills for “If we, like, need to grease anyone,” and a chocolate-covered scorpion.

The third slide, which has also gone viral on the internet, all thanks to Perry’s hilarious joke. On the slide, we see Justin Bieber surfing YouTube while Perry candidly says, “Thank God he has Premium, I don’t wanna see no ads.”

Bieber’s performance featured a YouTube-inspired theme, set on a simple stage with a laptop. He mixed childhood video clips with live versions of songs like Baby and Never Say Never. The post also appeared to be a true-blue tribute to Bieber, as she melted hearts on the internet with a childhood photo from their meet-and-greet.

In addition, the Firework singer also posted several glimpses with her beau, Justin Trudeau, as they held each other’s hands and relaxed side by side. In one of the images, the couple was seen enjoying snacks and sipping from red Solo cups. In one of the clips, Trudeau was also seen standing behind the singer while they enjoyed and grooved to the musical evening together.

Unexpectedly, the couple faced backlash for allegedly being performative. A user wrote, “This is the most cringeworthy thing I’ve seen in quite some time. Wow.” Another user criticized Trudeau, saying, “This man went back to being a teenager the minute he lost his job!” A third user wrote, “LOL!! What a try-hard!” and another said, “New most annoying Trudeau pic just dropped.”

Meanwhile, a section of users also came in the couple’s support as one fan suggested, “At the end of the day, everyone deserves to enjoy life regardless of social status, while one commented, “Katy is all of us if we were there,” while reacting to a video in which the 41-year-old can be seen getting overexcited while Bieber started performing on his ever-so-iconic track, Baby.

The couple kept it casual with the former Canadian Prime Minister in jeans and a white T-shirt, while Perry dressed in a white shirt, shorts, and a black cardigan. According to People, a source close to the couple said that they could be in a relationship only because Trudeau was "persistent."
