Donald Trump Jabs Emmanuel Macron, Says France’s First Lady Treats Him “Badly”
After recently taking a swipe at the British Prime Minister, Donald Trump is again making headlines for his mockery of politicians. This time, Trump aimed his comments at French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron.
During a private lunch on April 1, as Trump criticized NATO allies over the Iran war, he used the moment to take a personal dig at the French President's marriage. The remarks, which mixed personal humor with serious global tensions, stirred controversy.

During a private lunch, as Donald Trump criticized NATO allies for not joining the ongoing war against Iran, he took a personal dig at French President Emmanuel Macron. In a video that appeared on the White House YouTube channel before access was restricted, Trump recounted his conversation with Macron about the war.
"We didn't need them, but I asked anyway. I call up France, Macron — whose wife treats him extremely badly. Still recovering from the right to the jaw, and I said, 'Emmanuel, we'd love to have some help in the Gulf even though we're setting records on knocking out bad people and knocking out ballistic missiles,'" Trump said.
While Trump claimed that Macron declined to send support during the war, Trump also commented on Brigitte Macron, saying she treats her husband badly. Trump appeared to be referencing an old viral video from May 2025, which Macron had previously dismissed as part of a disinformation campaign.
Donald Trump further mocked Macron with a French accent while describing their conversation. "We'd love to have some help. If you could, could you please send ships immediately. [Macron said] 'No no no, we cannot do that, Donald. We can do that after the war is won,'" Trump said.
"I said, 'No no, I don't need after the war is won, Emmanuel'. So I learned about NATO — NATO won't be there if we ever have the big one, you know what I mean by the big one," Trump continued. He said the exchange led him to question whether NATO would stand with the U.S. in a larger conflict.
Trump Criticized Keir Starmer Over the Iran War
Meanwhile, France and Emmanuel Macron weren't the only ones to get criticized by Donald Trump over the war. Previously, the U.S. President also ended his bromance with the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, when Britain refused to get involved in the war and didn't allow the use of U.K. airbases for defensive purposes.
Speaking in the Oval Office, Trump attacked Starmer declaring that “this is not Winston Churchill that we’re dealing with” and said the present times were “not the age of Churchill.” Further, reflecting on Starmer’s habit of constantly consulting his top officials before acting, Trump mocked the Prime Minister.
"You don't have to worry about a team. You don't have a team. You're the prime minister. You can make a decision," Trump said. Taking to his Truth Social, he wrote: "All of those countries that can't get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran."
He continued: "I have a suggestion for you… You'll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won't be there to help you anymore, just like you weren't there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!"
