Sameerah Munshi, the sole Muslim woman advisor on President Donald Trump's White House Religious Liberty Commission, has resigned over the U.S.-Israel war against Iran. Her resignation also served as a protest against the removal of conservative commissioner Carrie Prejean Boller, who had voiced criticism of Israel and Zionism.

Munshi, appointed to the commission by Trump in 2025, shared her decision in an essay that she posted to Substack on March 13, 2026. "My name is Sameerah Munshi. I am a Presidential appointee serving as advisor to the White House Religious Liberty Commission. Today, I am resigning over the injustice and atrocities of this administration at home and abroad," she wrote.

Sameera Munshi's Resignation Letter

"I resign in protest of two deeply troubling developments: the official removal of Carrie Prejean Boller for her deeply held beliefs about Palestine and the federal government's illegal war against Iran, undertaken without clear constitutional or congressional authorization," Munshi stated.

She stressed the weight of her decision, writing that she would one day stand before God and answer for her role in the commission. She added that she prayed for forgiveness if she had "legitimized their evil or the evil of this administration in any way."

Munshi, who serves as director of the Religious Freedom Institute, condemned the Trump administration's "unlawful killing of children and civilians in Iran at the urging of a genocidal state." She said she supports "America over Israel," which she said meant she "cannot support Trump or his government."

"Not only is the American public against this aggression, but our tax dollars are funding the very violence that we oppose, both against innocent Palestinians and now Iranians. It is painfully obvious through their actions that this administration has no regard for the Constitution's protection of free expression and religious liberty, nor its detailing of war powers," she wrote.

Sameerah Munshi's Testimony About Palestine

Munshi revealed she began feeling isolated from the program after testifying about Palestine and what she described as a constitutional right for students to protest Israel's killing of Palestinians.

"After I testified about Palestine, I stopped receiving the witness lists before each hearing, so I don't know if that was a coincidence, if it was organizational, just a miscommunication on their end, or if they literally held it against me about what I testified on," she wrote. She described this as the turning point when her presence on the Commission began feeling increasingly unwelcome.

Sameera Munshi shares an Instagram post protesting the U.S.' war against Iran.

She clarified that her resignation was not driven by "fear or intimidation" from anyone within the Commission, government, or any interest group. "I am resigning because I have seen firsthand the injustice perpetrated by members of this commission, and I am unwilling to be associated with it any longer," Munshi said.

Sameerah Munshi's resignation came nearly two weeks after Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched a joint airstrike against Iran, killing the Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and plunging the region into escalating instability.
