Measure Being Co-Sponsored by Democratic Lawmakers

According to Fox News, Tlaib has made an active effort to block Trump from participating in joint military operations with Israel in Lebanon. The move follows broader attempts by Democratic lawmakers to prevent the president from attacking Iran.

Tlaib is co-sponsoring the measure alongside Democratic lawmakers Delia Ramirez and Nydia Velázquez. Notably, the resolution makes no reference to Hezbollah, the allegedly Iranian-backed group responsible for launching attacks against Israel.

The group had also coordinated strikes with Tehran, including cluster rounds that drew widespread concern on social media in early March. Hezbollah joined the war against the U.S. following the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a military strike.

Hezbollah's attacks were met with Israeli counterstrikes and a major ground offensive by the Israel Defense Forces in Southern Lebanon, aimed at pushing the militant group out of range of Israeli communities.

Rashida Tlaib Plans a Second Resolution Against Trump Administration

Tlaib has also introduced a second resolution aiming to end United States' intervention in the Middle East. This motion would direct the Trump administration to call on Israel to end its military campaign in Lebanon and halt weapons transfers to the country. The measure not only omits any reference to Hezbollah's actions but also accuses Israel of planning "crimes against humanity and genocide" in Lebanon.

The resolution stated, "[T]he United States is coauthoring this destruction through the weapons, intelligence, logistics and diplomatic cover it provides the Israeli Government." To date, United States service personnel have not joined the military campaign in Lebanon.

Tlaib has also characterized the campaign as an "ethnic cleansing campaign" funded by United States taxpayers, urging what she described as crimes against humanity and an illegal invasion be brought to an end.
