In 2026, first dates are basically a gamble. One minute you’re imagining spending time and getting to know each other over coffee and shared playlists, the next moment, something weird ruins everything.

And that's exactly what happened to TikTok creator Gracie Rasmussen, who found herself in such an unpredictable dating market after a man crashed right into her Instagram DMs. At first, it seemed normal as two people got to know each other online.

But then, as the time came for him to plan the date and pick her up, vibes completely went off. His fumble left Rasmussen asking the internet the ultimate question: Is she overthinking, or did this guy mess up before the date even began?

What Happened to Rasmussen’s Date?

Making a video about it on TikTok, Rasmussen explained how things went from cute to confusing real soon. She began by saying, “OK, guys. I need help deciphering if I’m off-base here or if this man’s ego is bruised. It proves another point that it’s not the women out here, it’s the men.”

Explaining how she got an Instagram DM from this man following which they shared their numbers with each other, Rasmussen recalled him setting a date on a particular day at 7 p.m. However, on the actual day of the date, things got weird. “Today, he goes, ‘What’s your address?’ At 4:51, he sends that,” she said.

Maintaining transparency with her followers and revealing the whole chat with the man, Rasmussen said, “I give him my address. He said, ‘What are the odds you’d meet me downtown? Could grab food, maybe hit the arcade, or City Creek, or something?’” And that’s when Rasmussen mentally checked out.

“What is literally the point of asking me out on a date if you just can’t plan anything or are putting zero percent energy in?” she asked her followers. Then the content creator asked him his age and was baffled to know that he's 26 years old and still doesn't know how to properly plan a date.

In addition, the whole deal-breaker thing for her started after the guy refused to pick up Rasmussen from her house. “I said I was interested on Instagram before I knew all of this,” she stated, adding, “And this is also how he ‘planned the date’ on Instagram.” However, the final nail in the coffin for the influencer was his last reply.

“‘I don’t see how that’s the bare minimum lol. I’m coming from the opposite way but I can see I dodged a bullet and coming from you, that’s a compliment,’” she read out loud. After explaining the whole situation, Rasmussen asked her followers for their opinions on whether she was right, or if he was misunderstood.

'His Ego Was Bruised'

As the video went viral on TikTok garnering over 12,000 views, the comment section turned into a full-on debate zone. While people argued on whether she overreacted or was on point, most comments seemed to be firmly on Rasmussen’s side.

“I agree with you 100%!!!” one viewer commented. Another stated, “If he doesn’t want to pick you up then he’s a jerk with too many options, so he doesn’t care.” A third user noted, “His ego was bruised.”

But then again, not everyone was team Rasmussen, for some people defended the guy, saying dating in today’s world is different. Standing in the guy's favor, some suggested that meeting halfway for a first date is totally normal. “I think today’s world, [it’s] fair to meet on the first date. I think you’re expecting [too much]. Why should we put a ton of effort [into] someone you’ve never met?” one user stated. Another wrote, “26, not to stereotype, but he is young and immature!!!”
