Following the shooting targeted at Donald Trump and other top officials at the White House Correspondents’ dinner on April 25, 2026, the president appeared on 60 Minutes for an interview with anchor Norah O'Donnell about the shooting.

However, the exchange grew contentious after O'Donnell read aloud from the manifesto of Cole Thomas Allen, the man charged in connection with the shooting.

Donald Trump blasted the 60 Minutes reporter when she read the alleged gunman's manifesto

One passage in Allen's manifesto read, “I am no longer willing to permit a p--------, r-----, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.” After reading the passage aloud, O'Donnell asked Trump for his reaction.

However, Trump objected to O'Donnell reading the manifesto aloud and criticized her for doing so. He pushed back against the characterizations of him contained in Allen's written statement.

Donald Trump said, “Well, I was waiting for you to read that because I knew you would, because you’re horrible people. Horrible people. Yeah, he did write that. I‘m not a r-----. I didn’t r--- anybody.”

However, O'Donnell followed up by asking whether Trump believed Allen's words were directed at him. Norah O’Donnell asked him, “Oh, you think—do you think he was referring to you?”

Donald Trump had an uncomfortable interview with the 60 Minutes reporter, Norah O’Donnell

The president lashed out at her, stating, “Excuse me, excuse me,” after which he paused for a few seconds to process her question. He then chose to give a quick clarification on his alleged past ties to Jeffrey Epstein that had paved the way for several rumors against him.

Trump continued, “I’m not a p--------. You read that c--- from some sick person. I got associated with stuff that has nothing to do with me. I was totally exonerated. Your friends on the other side of the plate are the ones that were involved with, let’s say, Epstein or other things.”

Questions about Trump's past connections to Epstein had also drawn scrutiny, along with his wife, Melania Trump, who had also issued a clarification that she did not have any close association with the convicted offender.

Trump was found liable by a civil jury for s------- abusing E. Jean Carroll, a finding he has repeatedly contested. However, he tried to divert all of these allegations and further reprimanded the 60 Minutes reporter.

Trump added, “But I said to myself, ‘You know, I’ll do this interview and they’ll probably’—I read the manifesto. You know, he’s a sick person. But you should be ashamed of yourself for reading that because I’m not any of those things.”

However, the reporter replied to him, saying, “Mr. President, these are the gunman’s words.” However, he continued to chide the reporter and said, “Excuse me, excuse me. You shouldn’t be reading that on 60 Minutes. You’re a disgrace. But go ahead. Let’s finish the interview.”

Before the reporter could move on to her next question, Donald Trump took one last dig at her, saying, “You’re disgraceful.” The President’s MAGA administration has been repeatedly plagued by questions about the Epstein files.
