Melania Trump’s Reaction Captured as Gunfire Erupts at White House Dinner
Melania Trump's "Tight" Expression During the Correspondents' Dinner Shooting Was Caught on Camera — Trump Later Called It "Traumatic"
First Lady Melania Trump was visibly shaken inside the Washington Hilton ballroom when gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner on Saturday, April 25th. Her expression was captured on camera as the chaotic scene unfolded.
Witnesses described Melania Trump as having a "tight" expression and said she appeared to recognize the danger before the president did, according to reports. Concerning the terrifying situation, guests sought shelter beneath tables to shield themselves from a gunman that the Secret Service ultimately eventually detained.

The Secret Service Agents encircled Melania, President Donald Trump, as well as the Vice President JD Vance and gave them complete protection from danger. The President was brought down from the stage.
President Trump later said: "I want to thank the First Lady for what was a rather traumatic experience for her. There was a lot of action taking place up there very quickly, but again the response time was really incredible." The situation escalated when security personnel rushed through the ballroom with weapons drawn.
Alongside several members in the ballroom, like other guests, the first lady appeared distressed as the venue went into lockdown and the dinner was canceled. Among the other notable guests were Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and communications director Steven Cheung.
Kash Patel, the FBI Director was present at the scene too, with White House reporters noting that he rushed inside alongside a couple of agents after U.S. Secretary of Health Robert Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Cheryl Hines, were escorted to safety. CNN's Wolf Blitzer said he had been just feet from the gunman before stepping away to use the restroom after appetizers were served.

Blitzer said he heard shots in the nearby hallway before an officer directed him to take cover on the ground. Blitzer described the incident as 'worrisome', reflecting that the shooter was armed with a 'major weapon' and before that he said he was moved to a secure room with approximately 15 others. They were held inside till it was declared that the perimeter was safe.
Trump posted on Truth Social praising the Secret Service and recommending the event continue — a decision later confirmed by administration officials.
"Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job," he wrote. "They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we 'LET THE SHOW GO ON' but will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement."
