Pop star Dua Lipa is currently engaged in a legal battle with the global electronics giant, Samsung.

The singer has recently filed a $15 million lawsuit against the conglomerate for using her image without permission.

According to reports, Lipa said that Samsung used a photo of her face in advertisements to help promote its televisions.

Dua Lipa files a $15 million lawsuit against Samsung.

According to Lipa’s $15 million lawsuit, Samsung allegedly used one of the singer's images on cardboard TV packaging starting last year.

The complaint further stated that Lipa asked the company to stop using the image after she became aware of it.

However, Lipa alleged in her lawsuit that Samsung was “dismissive and callous” and refused the request.

Therefore, citing that she was left with no choice, Lipa filed the lawsuit seeking $15 million in compensation.

Her lawsuit states: “Ms. Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge, without consideration, and as to which she had no say, control, or input whatsoever. Ms. Lipa did not allow, and would not have allowed this use.”

The complaint further claims that Samsung’s alleged unauthorized use of Lipa's image has “caused and continues to cause dilution” of her “brand identity and commercial goodwill.”

It also alleged that the use falsely suggests to consumers that Lipa “approves of and endorses” Samsung’s products.

The complaint states that since the pop star owns the copyright to the photograph taken backstage at the Austin City Limits Festival in 2024, and since Samsung profited from Lipa's unknowing endorsement, the suit was filed.

An X user reacts to Dua Lipa filing a lawsuit against Samsung.

Social media users seem divided over the ongoing legal battle between Lipa and Samsung.

Many online users mocked the lawsuit as unnecessary and exaggerated, while others argued that no sensible person would buy a product simply because it was endorsed by a celebrity.

“I do not believe a single person exists that choose to buy that TV because the ad on display had Dua Lipa's face lol,” one user wrote.

Another added, “I don’t need Dua Lipa’s face on the box of my new TV. It could be a plaid box, but suing Samsung for that is ridiculous. Does she really need money?”

Others defended the singer and argued that she deserves compensation if her image was used without approval.

“Dua Lipa deserves compensation. The only reason I bought my Samsung tv back in 2019 was this woman's face. It was nothing to do with the tv quality or the price or the features,” one user wrote.

Some users joked by calling Lipa's lawsuit a landmark case for other stars like Fast & Furious actor Ludacris to start filing complaints. “When will Ludacris sue Nigerian barbers?” one user commented.

An individual stated, “She must have gone broke, pls pay her the money.”

“Is it just me or does 15 million seem low for a global brand like Samsung. This is going to be a landmark case for artists,” noted one user.
