An intrepid bunny rabbit has been making headlines this week after California Highway Patrol officers rescued it from where it was found on the Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland, Calif.

Though all's well that ends well in this story, it sounds like state police had a pretty — ahem — jumpy time trying to get ahold of the furry animal.

The department posted a detailed (and very punny) account of what happened on social media Tuesday, alongside sweet photos of the "arresting" officers holding the adorable creature.

The bunny ended up being captured after hopping across the Bay Bridge.

"A recent 'hare-raising' chase on the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB) resulted in the safe capture of an adventurous and confused bunny. Yes, you read that correctly….a bunny rabbit attempting to hop across the Bay Bridge," CHP wrote on Facebook.

"Your CHP San Francisco Area Officers J. Landquist, #24109, and H. Contreras, #24112, responded to a 911 call last Sunday afternoon of a bunny rabbit hopping along the raised catwalk on I-80 e/b (SFOBB) towards Treasure Island. As CHP Officers Landquist and Contreras arrived in the area, they quickly hopped into action and approached the wayward bunny. The bunny began feverishly hopping e/b away from the officers along the right lanes and catwalk, eluding capture for several minutes, while also hopping w/b attempting to flee back towards San Francisco," the post continues.

The post was filled with puns.

Whoever wrote the post really leaned into the bunny puns, as well as making it sound like this was an actual arrest, rather than what it was — a rescue mission.

"The officers were not 'hoppy' with this rabbit’s evasive tactics and came up with a plan to detain the furry fugitive. Retrieving flare boxes from their respective vehicles, they were able to safely detain the bunny after this lengthy twelve-minute escapade. Our new furry friend, 'Hops-A-Lot' was transported safely off the bridge and later turned over to San Francisco Animal Control for care after being verbally warned by the officers to keep it’s future hopping activities on the grass and not the asphalt freeways or bridges. We do owe 'some-bunny,' an eagle-eyed member of our motoring public, a huge 'thank you' for being quite observant and making us aware of our furry friend’s bridge adventure, which led to a safe rescue and 'hoppy' ending!"

People were super grateful for the update.

Commenters on the update were super grateful to the officers for their rescue work.

"Thank you for your compassion for our furry friends — rabbits can be especially tricky to catch!" wrote one person.

"Love it ... Well written, made me smile. Nice job being patient to save a bunny," said a second.

"Awww! He's ear-resistable! That sounds like it was a hare-raising experience, while also a hare-larious mess. Thank you CHP officers; you are some bunny special!" commented a third.

Some people joked about the situation.

Of course, others had jokes.

"Call Officer Hopps from Zootopia PD. She can help on this call," said one person.

"'Hey, let me go, why was I rescued? I was just trying to have fun,'" wrote another, imagining what was going through the bunny's mind at the time.
