Police Reveal Truth About Bone Found Near Nancy Guthrie’s Home

Emotions were high after a bone was found near Nancy Guthrie's home. Later, authorities shared that it was a prehistoric find and not related to her disappearance.

According to The Washington Times, the local police said the bone was found on Thursday morning, roughly seven miles from where Guthrie disappeared from earlier this year. Authorities later stated the bone was a “prehistoric anthropological investigation.” It was a fossil they said.

Nancy Guthrie has been missing since January 31. Surveillance footage shows that a masked man was outside her door in the early hours of February 1, and she may have been kidnapped by him.

Investigators previously shared that Nancy's blood was found outside her home, and there was also a "mixed DNA" sample found. It is this sample that complicated the forensic analysis process because it has genetic material from more than one person.

The FBI has since become more involved in the situation with Kash Patel also recently saying in an interview that they should have been called in at an earlier stage.

He said that they were only called in four days after Nancy had gone missing and could have missed important evidence. Patel stated that they had made progress after the FBI became involved.

The forensic complications only add to the many unanswered questions in the Nancy Guthrie case. The prehistoric bone discovery, while not linked to the case, shows just how closely the public is following every possible development tied to the investigation.

The Guthrie family is devastated by their mother's disappearance as the investigation continues. While Savannah Guthrie has returned to work, she recently left the TODAY show early with no apparent explanation.

With little information to go on, the FBI initially offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or an arrest. But then, Savannah and her family later increased the reward to $1 million and also donated a large sum towards an organization for missing children.

By donating to such a worthy cause, the family has reached those in need, and the case beyond its growing national attention.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen after she returned home after a family dinner when Savannah’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, dropped her off and confirmed that she entered the house safely before he left.

Experts with the University of Arizona Department of Anthropology and the local medical examiner's office looked at the bone, and confirmed that it was a fossil.

While police have ruled out the latest bone discovery near her home, her disappearance remains unresolved.

In March, Sheriff Chris Nanos stated, “We believe we know why [the kidnapper] did this and we believe that it was targeted, but we're not 100% sure of that."

“So it'd be silly to tell people, ‘Don't worry about it. You're not his target.’ You could be. Don't think for a minute that because it happened to the Guthrie family, you're safe. No. Keep your wits about you,” he said.
