Pete Hegseth's wife wore a dress at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that has fueled debate after some claimed that it was purchased from a low-cost fast-fashion retailer. This has led to conversations around politics and what can be considered appropriate if you're the Secretary of War's wife.

Jennifer Rauchet Hegseth sparked debate when she attended a high-profile Washington even in a one-shoulder evening gown that some online users say is remarkably like a $42 design listed on Shein.

The dress has been an interesting diversion from the discussion about the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Previously, the shooting incident seemed to be the only focus of the evening.

But now, Rauchet's evening gown has taken center stage as online users weigh in on the one-shoulder dusty pink gown. She accessorized it with a statement necklace and a darling handbag in the same tones.

Pete Hegseth's wife Jennifer's dress sparked furious debate online.

The discussion about Jennifer Hegseth's dress seems to stem from a post made by influencer Ella Devi. She posted, "“peter hegeseth’s [sic] wife wore a dress from temu to the white house correspondents’ dinner (I’m not joking).” The post garnered millions of views, as the attention drew even more eyes to the outfit.

Others joined the debate including fashion watchdog Diet Prada. They added, "Pete Hegseth’s wife wore fast fashion from overseas … despite her party’s nationalist ideologies.”

But it wasn't just doom and gloom, and many also found her outfit choice refreshing. Political activist Laura Loomer wrote, "She looks amazing. I thought the left was about ‘eating the rich?’ Now you want to dunk on someone who didn’t waste $10,000 on a dress they will only ever wear once?”

More social media users also chimed in with their messages which ranged from "She looks great! Who cares where it's from?" to "They have so much $ why would she do this to herself?"

Jennifer Hegseth apparently wore a $42 gown from Shein.

Jennifer Hegseth's dress isn't sparking controversy just because she apparently chose a cheap dress to wear to a high-profile event. The underlying cause for concern, says sustainable fashion expert Aja Barber according to The Guardian, is the message she's portraying.

"Their crimes are many... and wearing a dress from a sweatshop is among them," she said.

Barber argued that more attention should be given to the labor conditions behind low cost clothing. “Clothing should cost a lot more than what we are seeing on the high street,” she said, pointing to systemic issues tied to global manufacturing," she stated.

Nevertheless, reactions were varied across social media. Critics pointed to the contradiction between the Trump administration's "U.S. first" nationalist messaging and then wearing fashion from overseas sweatshops. Whereas others defended the choice, arguing that choosing affordable clothes shouldn't be a problem.

Both Hegseth and his wife have remained tight-lipped about the dress and its origins. No official statement has been made about their positions either.

Still, the dress has sparked conversation about how fashion choices and politics sometimes don't go hand-in-hand.
