'Disgusting': Pete Hegseth's ‘Embarrassing’ 'Pulp Fiction' Bible Verse Sparks Online Fury
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has found himself in hot water after reciting a prayer at the Pentagon that closely mirrors lines from the 1994-movie Pulp Fiction.
As leading figures of the Trump administration continue to be at loggerheads with Pope Leo XIV, Hegseth's actions have sparked another controversy.
More than the content, it was the context in which his words were used that drew significant attention.
Pete Hegseth's Pentagon Prayer Stirs Controversy
According to The Mirror US, while giving a sermon at the Pentagon, Hegseth quoted lines from the film Pulp Fiction, directed by Quentin Tarantino.
Hegseth told the audience that the prayer had been shared with him by the “lead mission planner” who was involved in a rescue mission for two U.S. Air Force crew members shot down over Iran.
The Defense secretary added that it was a standard phrase often used in combat search-and-rescue missions.
An X post highlighting the similarities between Pete Hegseth's prayer at the Pentagon and a quote from the film 'Pulp Fiction.'
As part of the prayer, Hegseth said, “The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of comradery and duty shepherds the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children.”
“And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know my call sign is Sandy One, when I lay my vengeance upon thee. Amen,” he added.
Apparently, the first few lines of Hegseth’s prayer were written by Tarantino and Rodger Avary for the cult-classic film headlined by John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson.
In the movie, Jackson’s character recites the verse before killing a small-time criminal who owed his boss money. The character went on to claim that the fake verse is from the Bible passage Ezekiel 25:17.

The prayer quoted by Jackson’s character in the film was, “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and goodwill, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.”

This comes at a time when a feud between President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV has already been grabbing the headlines.
