Karoline Leavitt is facing heavy backlash online after she defended President Donald Trump's recent rant at an Easter event at the White House, where he said the U.S. federal government can't fund programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and day care.

On Thursday, April 2, Leavitt took to X (formerly Twitter) to defend the POTUS. "Democrats and the left-wing media are dishonestly taking President Trump's comments out of context," the White House Press Secretary said.

"President Trump was talking about the importance of stopping the scams and rooting out the billions of dollars in fraud in these vital programs that elected Democrat officials have allowed to happen," Leavitt wrote. "President Trump's record proves he will always protect and strengthen Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid."

She continued, "The President proudly signed the Working Families Tax Cuts, which eliminate taxes on Social Security benefits for nearly all seniors and bar illegal aliens and other ineligible individuals from fraudulently receiving Medicare and Medicaid benefits."

Karoline concluded her post, saying, "The Trump economic agenda will continue to lower costs and make everyday life more affordable for hardworking American families."

Karoline Leavitt Bashed for Defending President Donald Trump

Leavitt's defense of Trump sparked heavy backlash on social media.

"No, he wasn't. We can see the video ourselves. We are in 1984 now," Democratic political candidate Fred Wellman wrote on X. "No, the President was clearly talking about defunding social welfare to pay for a war he started for fun," Stephen Semler, co-founder of the Security Policy Reform Institute, commented.

"Out of context? It is exactly what he said, how he said it, in the context that he said it. Trump said: It's not possible for us to take care of daycare, Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things. We have to take care of one thing: military protection. We have to guard the country.' There's no walking back this one," said one user.

Dean Baker, senior economist at the Center for Economic & Policy Research, retorted, saying, "I thought Elon Musk and DOGE stopped all the scams. Are you telling us that was just a clown show and total waste of money?" "More word salad, lying leavitt," commented another person.

Journalist Marcy Wheeler took a jab at the White House Press Secretary and said, "Karolyin getting some whoppers in before maternity leave." Plastic Barbie is working overtime now that orange buffoon has warned that her a– is on line. Gold digger is now losing her touch…the entire world knows she is making things up," said yet another user.

President Donald Trump's Rant at the White House Easter Luncheon

For those unaware, on Wednesday, Trump hosted people from several religious organizations at the White House for an Easter luncheon. During his speech, Trump said that the federal government cannot pay for programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and daycare. He said state governments should raise taxes to fund these programs, as the federal government has to focus on military protection.

According to NBC News, Trump said that he told Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, "Don't send any money for day care, because the United States can't take care of day care. That has to be up to a state. We can't take care of day care. We're a big country. We have 50 states. We have all these other people. We're fighting wars. We can't take care of day care. You got to let a state take care of day care, and they should pay for it too."

Trump then added, "It's not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things," Trump said. "They can do it on a state basis. You can't do it on a federal. We have to take care of one thing: military protection. We have to guard the country."

Trump's statements sparked an online debate, with many people slamming the President. Following the backlash, the White House deleted the video of Trump's speech from social media platforms.
