Donald Trump shakes hands with DoorDash driver Sharon Simmons.
'Maybe': The One-Word Answer From a Doordash Driver That Left Donald Trump Scrambling for Words
A normal workday for a DoorDash driver, Sharon Simmons, took an unexpected turn when she was dragged by President Donald Trump into a surprise press conference at the White House.
Simmons had reportedly come to deliver a McDonald’s order at the White House.
Initially, Trump questioned Simmons whether she would be interested in joining him for the press conference. Later, the president Trump asked her if she had voted for the Republican Party.
While the question caught her off guard, her quiet, one-word reply quickly became the talking point of the entire episode.
What Led to the DoorDash Driver Joining Donald Trump's Press Conference?

As mentioned earlier, Simmons was delivering a McDonald's order at the White House, when Trump personally invited her to join him in a press conference in front of reporters.
“You're really nice. Would you like to do a little news conference with me with these people?" Trump asked her.
The president then joked that the reporters were “not the nicest people.” “They're not nice like you. You know that, right?” Trump told Simmons.
Following this, the DoorDash driver politely agreed, saying she would do "whatever you ask me to do, Sir."
As Simmons agreed, Trump went on to speak about the no-tax-on-tips provision of his One Big Beautiful Bill. "So the no tax on tips is something special, right?" Trump asked.
"It's very special. And that's one that really pertains to you more than anything else?” he said.
Simmons, who was standing beside the president, called the idea “fantastic” and said meeting the president was an honor. However, her responses then prompted Trump to ask a rather awkward question regarding her voting choice.
Doordash Driver's Response to Donald Trump's Voting Question
As soon as Trump asked the Simmons whom she voted for, the vibe at the press conference turned awkward. “I think you voted for me. Do you think?” the president questioned the DoorDash driver. To this, Simmons replied, “Maybe”.
Her response led people to believe either she's a Democrat who felt obligated to hide her political preference in front of a Republican, or she simply wished to keep her voting business to herself, especially during her working hours.
However, following her response, Trump quickly diverted the topic by thanking her and bidding adieu.
"I heard you're a great supporter. We appreciate it. Thank you. I'll put this over here. And why don't we have a news conference with the president?" he then said.
The press conference came shortly after Trump faced criticism online for sharing an AI-generated image of himself being portrayed as a Jesus Christ-like figure. The post was later deleted after many people called it offensive and blasphemous.
