Until just recently, Richard Glossip was an Oklahoma death row inmate. He has been within hours of execution multiple times, has eaten three separate last meals, and is now free after nearly three decades behind bars — with help from Kim Kardashian.

The reality star reportedly posted Glossip's $500,000 bond this week, allowing him to walk out of prison. He is now awaiting another trial for the 1997 killing of motel owner Barry Van Treese, reports Us Weekly.

Richard Glossip was released from prison after nearly 30 years.

Glossip's release comes after decades of closely-watched legal battles that eventually reached the U.S. Supreme Court. Now, he is eventually free to go home after 29 years.

Film producer Scott Budnick shared photos of Glossip leaving prison on Thursday, writing on social media that Kardashian has "graciously paid for" the bail.

“AFTER 29 YEARS INNOCENT ON OKLAHOMA’S DEATH ROW - RICHARD GLOSSIP WALKED OUT AS A FREE MAN THIS AFTERNOON!!!!” Budnick wrote.

Glossip was convicted of killing his former boss, Barry Van Treese in 1997. Prosecutors claimed that Glossip had hired maintenance worker Justin Sneed to kill Van Treese with a baseball bat.

Sneed admitted to killing Van Treese because he claimed that Glossip had paid him to do it. But, Glossip has consistently said that he was innocent.

Over the years, his execution was scheduled nine separate times. And he has even come so close to death that prison staff served him three final meals.

Then in 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Glossip's conviction and found that prosecutors had knowingly allowed false testimony, and therefore violated his right to a fair trial.

Richard Glossip released from jail after Kim Kardashian posts bail.

Kim Kardashian didn't randomly decide to post the 63-year-old man's bail. She has advocated for Glossip's release for years.

In a 2023 post on X, she wrote, "We cannot execute another man especially for a crime he didn’t commit! Everyone has to hear about Richard Glossip.”

She has also lobbied for other clemency cases, and has worked with attorneys to draw attention to criminal justice matters.

The celebrity is also planning to write the bar exam in 2027 so that she can be a "licensed lawyer."

Glossip's attorneys praised the judge's ruling that allowed him to leave prison while he prepares for a third trial.

“Mr. Glossip now has the chance to taste freedom while his defense team continues to pursue justice on his behalf,” his attorney Donald Knight said.

Oklahoma judge grants bond request after SCOTUS finds that he didn't have a fair trial.

Oklahoma prosecutors still want to prosecute Glossip for Van Treese's murder, but this time around, they're not going for the death penalty.

“While it was clear to me and to the U.S. Supreme Court that Mr. Glossip did not receive a fair trial, I have never proclaimed his innocence,” the Attorney General said. He said that Glossip's new trial would be based on "hard facts, solid evidence, and truthful testimony."

As Glossip walked out of prison holding hands with his wife, Lea, he described what he was feeling.

“I’m just thankful for my wife and my attorneys. Just thankful,” he said. “It’s overwhelming, but it’s amazing at the same time.”
