Kim Kardashian Pauses Bar Exam Ambitions Until 2027 After Multiple Failed Attempts

Kim Kardashian has decided to pause her California Bar Exam attempts until at least 2027 after failing the test in July 2025. The state provides just two chances yearly, hence she won't be able to take it in 2026. Sources told TMZ that she is willing to postpone, and her next potential attempt could be in 2027.

Last November, Kardashian publicly acknowledged failing the bar exam, thanking supporters and vowing to continue pursuing her legal goals.

Page Six reported Kardashian attempted the full bar exam for the first time in July 2025 and was unsuccessful. She also sat for the California First-Year Law Students' Examination — known as the "baby bar" — three times before passing on her fourth attempt in 2021.

Reacting to her news of failing in the exam last year, Kim K wrote on her Instagram, "Well… I’m not a lawyer yet, I just play a very well-dressed one on TV. Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination.”

In October 2025, during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show to promote Ryan Murphy's series All's Fair, Kardashian expressed confidence about passing the bar exam. She expressed her belief that she would soon be a "licensed lawyer."

According to reports, Kardashian is trying to follow in the footsteps of her late father, Robert Kardashian, who was a member of the Dream Team that defended O.J. Simpson in his 1995 murder trial. During an interview with Vogue in April 2019, the mother of four revealed her choice to pursue law in 2018 after advocating for the case of Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence plus 25 years for a drug crime.

In 2018, President Trump commuted Johnson's sentence following the recommendations of Kardashian and others, and two years later, he pardoned the great-grandmother.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kardashian said she used ChatGPT to help prepare for the bar exam, adding that the results were not always reliable. She denied using ChatGPT for personal or dating advice but admitted using it for legal study questions.

Kim said, "When I need to know the answer to a question, I'll take a picture and snap it and put it in there. It has made me fail tests ... all the time. And then I'll get mad and I'll yell at it."

Calling ChatGPT her 'frenemy', Kim said, "And then it'll say back to me, 'This is just teaching you to trust your own instincts. So you knew the answer all along'. But they need to do better because I'm leaning to them to really help me and she is teaching me a life lesson and then becoming my therapist to tell me why I need to believe in myself after they got the answer wrong".
