Karoline Leavitt posted a Bible verse about "spiritual darkness" and unbelievers while spending time away from the White House on maternity leave.

The press secretary posted a screenshot to her Instagram story that features a passage from the New Testament that seemingly talks about non-believers not being able to see, per The Mirror US.

The post drew attention online and many read her message which was posted on May 17, but while fans and foes speculated about the meaning and why she posted it, Leavitt has not responded to it.

The post read, "2 Corinthians 4:4 states that ‘the god of this age’ Satan has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God.”

It continued: “This means spiritual darkness prevents people from understanding God’s truth until their hearts are opened.”

Leavitt shared the post with the song "What a Wonderful God" by Party Tyme, but did not go on to explain why she had dropped the note on her Instagram page.

Of course, this is also not the first time that she has talked about her faith in the news.

Karoline Leavitt posted a Bible verse on her Instagram account.

The Instagram Story reflects Leavitt's beliefs and values as she is a practicing Catholic who has often talked about her faith.

The Bible verse can be viewed as a random quote, but many supporters and critics believe that it can also be a statement about perseverance and even political pressure.

Recently, Leavitt has used social media to communicate with supporters besides the usual press briefings. And it is here that her audience has seen her blend these updates with her personal and faith messages.

She has also talked about Christianity, and what she has previously called "spiritual warfare" in politics and culture before. In April 2025, she talked about when she believed she saw it in action.

According to The Telegraph, she said, "I certainly believe in spiritual warfare. And I think I saw it first-hand, especially throughout the campaign trail with President Trump," about his 2024 campaign.

The press secretary added, "And I think there certainly were evil forces.”

Karoline Leavitt talks about the importance of her faith to her.

Leavitt gave birth to her daughter Viviana on May 1, and she is still currently on maternity leave enjoying time with her baby, her toddler son, and her husband. However, she is still the Press Secretary and has a considerable amount of influence.

Her posts landed as Washington hosted "Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving,” which was a large Christian-focused event held by the Trump administration.

The gathering celebrated the 250th anniversary of a 1776 Continental Congress proclamation calling for prayer and fasting before American independence.

Tulsi Gubbard called for Americans when she took to social media, to also remember the day.

"Today, exactly 250 years later, we gather to do the same. To humbly ask once more for God's mercy and guidance — as we enter the next 250 years of this republic," she wrote.

In the context of the day's religious events, Leavitt's Instagram message could be seen as her encouraging others to press on.
