Kai Trump opened up about what it's really like to have one of the most recognizable last names in American politics. In a sit down interview, the 18-year-old described the online backlash she's been through, as well as detailing a direct confrontation with a stranger in public.

Speaking on the Impaulsive podcast, Kai said she believes "50% of the world" dislikes her because of her last name even though many of them "don't actually know her." Her comments quickly sparked even more debate, per Tyla.

Kai Trump says a stranger confronted her about her grandfather

Kai described a specific incident which is typical of the kind of attention that she faces.

"One time I was out in public and someone literally walked up to me to tell me that my grandpa sucks," she said before revealing how she responded to the jab.

"I said: Well thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to say that. Like, great, what do you want me to say to that?" Kai recalled.

Kai's frank comment sparked discussion because it added a real-world dimension into what she goes through as a Trump family member and how she tries to cope with remarks like that.

She also told podcast host Logan Paul that she hopes people will rather judge her as an individual rather than assume what she's like because of her family name.

She pointed out, "But like, they don’t actually know me. So, like, I’m hoping if people actually give me a shot and like not look at like the last name, then I won’t have any ops — but we’ll see,” she said.

Kai wants to be a pro-golfer.

Even though she is Donald Trump's granddaughter, she said that she does not want to get involved in politics herself.

“To be honest with you, I stay out of politics completely. I’d never run [for President]. I don’t want anything to do with politics because I feel like politics is such a dangerous thing,” she said.

Kai was able to voice her concerns that there are extremists on both sides, creating division. "There's a radical left, radical right, there's a lot of people who get too extreme," she stated. The influencer also suggested that if people could find common ground they would be "so much happier."

Kai's political views have been widely shared across social media platforms. Some praise her for keeping her distance, and point out that she should not be judged for her family's choices.

Others say that she benefits because her surname brings opportunities and visibility. As one said, "Yet she cashes in on the name whenever she can, with products and now sit-down interviews. Can't have it both ways."

Kai's building a name for herself online, both as a golfer(who often tees off with Trump) and as an influencer. She has grown her audience and is still trying to navigate what her fame means now that she's under constant scrutiny. It also remains to be seen if she will ever be able to outgrow her last name and everything that it stands for.
