‘It Was Tougher for Her’: JD Vance on Pregnant Wife Usha Vance’s Anxiety During WHCD Shooting
Vice President JD Vance got candid about the emotional toll his wife, Usha Vance, experienced after the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. He said that the shooting was more difficult for her as she is pregnant and followed the events from home.
Vance made these comments during his appearance on The Will Cain Show on Wednesday, April 29. During the interview, Vance said the situation was frightening for his wife, who was not present at the venue and was relying on news reports as the events took place.
As reported by Fox News, Vance said, "I think, honestly, it was tougher for my wife, who was at home with the kids and started hearing things through text messages and social media, than it was for me. I really didn’t know what was going on."
The vice president was escorted out of the Washington Hilton ballroom just before Secret Service agents evacuated President Donald Trump when gunfire erupted on Saturday, April 25. In an interview with 60 Minutes, Trump revealed that he “wanted to know what was happening” before leaving the ballroom with his wife, first lady Melania Trump.
JD Vance says the news of shooting was difficult for Usha Vance
The VP said that the whole experience was 'harder' for the second lady than for himself, as she was getting information in real time via text messages and social media instead of official or verified updates.
Vice President JD Vance was evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25.
The couple is expecting their fourth child, and they are parents to Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. He revealed that his wife was anxious as the news of the incident started spreading before any details were verified.
The Vice President also shed light on the shooting incident and said, "I’m sitting up there on the dais with some journalists and obviously the President of the United States a few seats to my right. There’s a lot of commotion. You hear some loud noises. I had no idea what it was.”
He then added, “Before I had any idea what was going on, I started seeing people duck under their tables or respond to what was going on far in the back of the ballroom,” he went on. “An agent comes and whispers in my ear, says basically, ‘Sir, we have to leave.’ … The agent sort of lifts me to my feet and I walk off stage and go to my hold room and wait and see what’s going on.”
As reported by People, Vance noted that he hadn't 'freaked out' until he learned that a Secret Service agent was shot. As per reports, a bullet had hit the agent's body, and he was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
