A baby deer who was found stuck in a porch railing in Virginia was safely rescued by firefighters this past summer.

Prince George County Fire and EMS said that Station 8 responded to a call about a fawn trapped between two bars on someone's porch.

Animal Services officers were called in for reinforcements, and the rescue team was able to liberate the young animal and release it into some woods nearby.

"Thank you to the Animal Services team for their help with this rescue," the Fire Department said following the mission.

They ended on a light note: "Hard not to be a bit more fawn-d of our dedicated teams."

Photos shared by the Fire Department showed the deer while it was stuck as well as the mission being carried out.

Thankfully, the deer was in very safe hands as this wasn't the first time Prince George County Fire and EMS was called out to help a deer stuck where it shouldn't be (though this was a different Station).

In December 2023, they shared photos of an adult deer stuck in a slight predicament with the caption, "Earlier today, the PGFD crew from the Chapel Oaks Station 838 were alerted for a deer stuck between two fences in Cheverly. Using ingenuity and hand tools, firefighters quickly cut through a wire fence and rescued the deer. After consultation with a local wildlife agency, it was determined that the deer would recover in the wild."

Firefighters are often called out to help deal with animals in sticky situations.

Also in Virginia, a fire squad bravely rescued two dogs and several cats from a house fire in October.

There was a similar situation in Ohio when firefighters saved a pet cat from another house fire earlier this month.

Firefighters are often called upon to rescue animals in sticky situations.

But firefighters also have to contend with some much more unusual situations.

For example, a fire brigade in Colorado had to help fish a pair of deer bucks out of a basement gym after they had fallen in while butting heads.

Another story that's pretty funny now that we know the subject is safe and well: Firefighters had to rescue a horse who had fallen into a swimming pool while attempting to walk across its canvas cover.

Given some of the really tragic situations firefighters are faced with day to day, these wholesome rescues are bound to help them with morale. And they make us smile, too.
