A family in Ohio received some amazing news after suffering a tragic event.

In Johnstown, Licking County earlier this month, a family's home was seriously damaged after a "devastating" house fire.

Happily, though, some of the home's former residents heard meowing coming from the ruins the next day and realized that their pet cat had survived the fire.

Firefighter Traci McMillen was praised for rescuing the cat.

"Yesterday’s fire was devastating for this family, but today brought a moment of hope," Monroe Township Firefighters Local 4250 wrote on Facebook following the events. "The homeowners heard faint meowing coming from the burned home and called for help. Our crew returned and, after a careful search through the damaged structure, found their cat alive and brought them out to safety. A reminder that even in the hardest moments, there can still be something to hold onto. 🐾🚒."

Firefighter Traci McMillen was the one to carry the pet out of the rubble, a fact which Licking County locals were deeply unsurprised about.

When the Township Firefighters shared a photo of McMillen with the roughed-up but apparently unharmed feline on social media, commenters immediately praised her.

One person said, "Wow!!!! That just made me cry!!! Of course, Traci has her in her arms. Perfect one to bring her out❤️❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌."

"Could not have been found by a more perfect person," said a second person, going on to tag McMillen's Facebook page.

Aside from the praise for McMillen, commenters also expressed deep gratitude for the whole department.

"Customer service at its best. Good job," wrote one person.

"Amazing work to all!" said someone else.

"Good job!!! I was hoping there weren’t pets inside," commented another.

The cat wasn't just alive: It was also in perfectly fine health, which is sure to have come as a huge relief to the family.

"The cat seemed to be in good spirits and didn’t seem to be hurt in any way. It seemed to be fine," Monroe Township Fire Battalion Chief Josh Harrison told The Columbus Dispatch. "I think the family was happy to have their pet (back)."

Sadly, this incident came after the county experienced a difficult day, with several fires breaking out in one hour.

As such, the local fire department had to call on other departments in the area to help with the simultaneous crises.

"We’re pretty fortunate that here in central Ohio we have a pretty robust mutual aid system and the ability to pull from all the great departments here in Licking County, but also in Franklin and Delaware County," said Harrison. "When our well-trained, experienced staff is tied up, we can count on our mutual aid partners."
