Firefighters Rescue Two Dogs and Several Cats From a House Fire in Virginia
Earlier this month, firefighters successfully rescued two dogs and what has been described as "several" cats from a house fire in Virginia.
Team members from Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were able to intervene in the fire, which occurred on the 21300 block of Hampton Avenue in Petersburg, Va., on October 21 at 3:18 a.m.
There were two adults present in the home when the fire broke out, but they were both able to leave the house safely and did not need to be rescued.
Not only did the firefighters save the lives of these pets, but they also dealt with the fire itself in under half an hour. The fire had broken out in the kitchen.

Chesterfield Fire and EMS posted about the incident on social media after the fact, sharing a photo of the home where they intervened, along with a description of the events.
On Facebook, many members of the public came together to thank the firefighters for their heroic actions.
"Thank you for saving the animals !!!" wrote one person.
"Thank you to our First Responders," commented a second.
"These firefighters are heroes, what a rescue," said another.

Unfortunately, the Chesterfield area is no stranger to house fires endangering pets inside homes.
Chesterfield County Fire and EMS actually responded to a very similar incident back in July.
At the time, firefighters arrived at the scene of a fire in the 12400 block of Ivytree Terrace and successfully rescued two cats and two chickens from the house. That fire had apparently been caused by lightning and the firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about an hour.

Tragically, not all pets have survived house fires in the Chesterfield area recently.
In August, three dogs were killed in a home on Sandy Court Ridge, though fortunately no people were hurt in that incident, according to 12 On Your Side.
And it's not just house fires, either. Pets can also get themselves in trouble in other ways, like when Chesterfield County Fire rescued a cat from a well back in April.

Everyone in the fire department is clearly an animal lover, as evidenced by their sweet social media post on National Fire Pup Day on October 2, when they recognized their very own Accelerant Detection K9, Clover.
"Clover is a Fox Red Labrador Retriever who has been with the department since 2019. While Clover works for Chesterfield Fire and EMS, she assists with fire investigations across Virginia, helping sniff out accelerants that may be used to set a fire," the department wrote on Instagram. "We might be kind of partial, but we think she’s the best fire pup out there!"
