Bondi attended Trump’s White House broadcast a day before she was fired in good spirits, unaware of what awaited her the following day. Earlier the same day, she also traveled with the president to the Supreme Court so he could attend oral arguments over his executive order on birthright citizenship.

Donald Trump’s Foreshadowing for Pam Bondi

Pam Bondi was unceremoniously fired by Donald Trump on April 2, 2026.

According to the Wall Street Journal, it was during this ride that the president suggested to the then-attorney general that she would be losing her job very soon. Trump reportedly told Pam Bondi, “I think it's time,” a comment widely interpreted as a signal that her time in the role was ending.

Bondi might not have taken his words seriously, taking them for a joke, as that particular day happened to be April 1, 2026, which is also celebrated as April Fool’s Day.

However, the very next day, the four-word remark proved to be a genuine warning when Bondi was dismissed. Reports suggest that the former Attorney General had also asked the President whether she could keep her job, but the latter did not budge.

Speculation had been building for some time that Bondi's position was at risk since her stint at the Department of Justice, especially the handling of the Epstein files, was marred by controversies.

Trump's decision to signal her dismissal with only a brief remark may have caught Bondi off guard. She tried her best to cater to the Trump administration while leading the Department of Justice, but the alleged loopholes and discrepancies in the functioning, especially while releasing the Epstein files, unfortunately sealed her fate.

After assuming the role of attorney general, Bondi said, “responsibilities of Department of Justice attorneys includes... vigorously defending presidential policies and actions against legal challenges on behalf of the United States."

Donald Trump was not Happy with Pam Bondi’s Work

Pam Bondi failed to turn up at an Oversight deposition after her firing to answer questions about the Epstein files.

The president's unhappiness with her tenure played a role in the decision to let her go, according to reports. Even though he shared a fairly positive Truth Social post after Bondi was fired, rumors were rife that he was not happy with her handling of the Epstein files.

Reports suggest Trump was also frustrated that Bondi had not moved aggressively enough on cases involving his political opponents. In a controversial slip-up, Donald Trump had mentioned on his Truth Social post that he had asked the former Attorney General to “go after his political opponents,” but had later deleted the post.

Despite this, it was revealed that Trump mentioned the names of FBI director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. However, Pam Bondi did her best to do what the President wanted, but it seems like that was certainly not enough for him.
