Fans at Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway got more drama than expected on Tuesday night. What was supposed to be a landmark evening for Megan Thee Stallion quickly turned into a worrying moment when the rapper suddenly fell sick mid-performance.

One minute she was owning the stage, the next she had to exit midway through the show. Stallion was rushed to a New York City hospital on March 31 after falling ill during her performance, leaving the audience in a state of panic.

Megan Thee Stallion’s Broadway Debut Marred By Her Sickness

After it was announced in February that Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion would make her Broadway debut, the performance was meant to be her big moment. Instead, it was cut short by a sudden health scare.

While performing in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Stallion felt very ill and was rushed offstage mid-show. Her team later told Variety that she was taken to a hospital in New York City for evaluation.

"During Tuesday night's production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available," her rep said.

The incident occurred just weeks into her special eight-week run, which began on March 24 and was expected to continue through May 17. Stallion had taken on the role of Harold Zidler, a character made famous on Broadway by Danny Burstein.

Just days before her hospitalization, Megan Thee Stallion made her debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, stepping into the role of nightclub owner Zidler, first made famous on film by Jim Broadbent in the 2001 movie alongside Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

Taking over from Bob the Drag Queen, who concluded his run as Zidler on March 22, Stallion also made history as the first female-identifying performer to play the role on stage. She had shared her excitement well ahead of opening night.

"Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor," Stallion said in a February 26 statement. "I've always believed in pushing myself creatively and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I'm excited to embrace."

She also acknowledged that "Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling," adding that she was "up for the challenge." After opening night on March 24, Stallion took to Instagram to expressed her gratitude.

"So grateful for this incredible cast & crew & everyone who worked so hard to make opening night a success!!" she wrote. "HOTTIES IM ON BROADWAY!!"
