Critics Slam Karoline Leavitt, DOJ for 'Silencing People Who Embarrass Them' Amid 'Whistleblower' Arrest
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has not been discreet about her disapproval of the media, as she accuses the press of spreading lies about President Donald Trump's administration.
On the other hand, critics are raising concerns about freedom of press amid what they see as an attempt to crack down on media sources after a former U.S. Army employee was charged for allegedly leaking classified information to a journalist.

Critics called out federal prosecutors and the Department of Justice (DOJ), which recently indicted Courtney Williams, 40, for allegedly leaking classified information to a reporter. According to Atlanta Black Star, press freedom advocates see the move as a tactic to intimidate whistleblowers and the reporters who rely on them.
Williams previously worked with the Delta Force at Fort Bragg. She was arrested and indicted for allegedly sharing classified materials, including documents and messages, with a journalist whose reporting exposed allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct inside the unit.
Williams now faces up to ten years in prison.
The journalist who reported on the allegations defended Williams as a whistleblower, whose efforts contributed to shedding light on disturbing behavior inside the elite unit. They also accused the DOJ of retaliating against the former U.S. Army employee for speaking out.

Critics have noted other instances, where they argue that the administration is actively pushing back on negative coverage and attempting to silence opposing voices.
Notably, on Tuesday, April 7, Leavitt took to X and slammed critics who have been questioning Trump's decisions in the ongoing U.S.-Iran war. "While President Trump Directed Heroic Rescue, the Radical Left Spread Deranged Lies," she wrote.
Her comments came after social media users voiced their condemnation of Trump's April 7 Truth Social post, where he declared that "a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again" if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz. He threatened to destroy the Islamic Republic, writing, "47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end."
The president's message drew heavy backlash online, with many MAGA voices pushing for his impeachment as well.

Social Media Users Call Out Karoline Leavitt
Following these instances, netizens took to social media platforms and slammed Leavitt and the Trump administration for what they see as an attack on any form of opposition and critique.
"This isn't about national security, it's about silencing people who embarrass them," one user wrote, according to Atlanta Black Star. "So now if you speak to a journalist about misconduct, you risk prison. That's where we are?" someone else asked.
"They're not even hiding it anymore. Go after the reporters, go after the sources, shut it all down," a third post read, as per the news outlet.

Others called out Leavitt's claims about Trump's "Heroic Rescue." One viral post said, "You can't scream about 'deranged lies' while your boss is threatening to wipe out a civilization in all caps."
"I'm trying to picture Trump directing a mission without laughing," quipped one user. Another user wrote, "He tweeted it. The whole world saw it. And now we're supposed to pretend it didn't happen?"
The U.S.-Israel-Iran war is now in its sixth week. Recently, the U.S. and Iran agreed to a conditional two-week ceasefire. The BBC reported that Trump has agreed to "suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks" if Tehran agrees to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
