President Donald Trump continues to face questions about his health as he draws criticism over his explanation for the AI post he made on Sunday, April 12, depicting himself as Jesus Christ. Shortly after the criticism by the pope, he deleted the image of himself from his social media.

Outside Oval Office, the president decided to provide an explanation for the controversial post. However, people were not satisfied, as they expressed concern for his physical and cognitive health.

Trump clarifies the controversy around his AI post.

The image that Trump posted on Truth Social, featured him in red and white robes, where he seemed to be healing a man with light emitting from his hands. Pope Leo XIV criticized Trump, saying, “be abused, as some are doing,” according to The Guardian. He also said, “I’m not afraid of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the gospel.”

Following the public criticism, the president deleted the controversial post and explained his actions to reporters waiting outside the Oval Office (via X). He clarified that “I did post it and I thought it was me as a doctor” and not a depiction of Jesus Christ. He added, “And had to do with Red Cross as a Red Cross worker, which we support, and only the fake news could come up with that one.”

He expressed his surprise at the misunderstanding caused, reemphasizing that “it was supposed to be me as a doctor, making people better.” He doubled down on his claim of making people better, sharing an instance of the food delivery agent, present next to him. He shared that her husband was undergoing cancer treatment and “this goes a long way.”

Trump’s sentiments were shared by JD Vance, backing Trump’s Jesus post and attack on Pope Leo. During an interview with Fox News, he dismissed the AI image as a “joke,” saying Trump took it down after people misunderstood the joke.

JD Vance backs Trump's statement about the AI Jesus post.

He added, “I think the President of the United States likes to mix it up on social media.” Vance continued that this is one of the good things about Trump, as he prefers to be unfiltered and reach out directly to the people rather than through a communications specialist.

‘Fake News Strikes Again’

Despite Donald Trump and JD Vance’s attempts at damage control, social media users were fuming over their statements. A user commented, “Wow, I didn’t see that one coming…” Another user added, “You f------ posted this. NO Red Cross, NO doctor! YOU posted yourself as Jesus doing a healing. This wasn’t fake news, this is YOU trying to lie your way out of it,” and tagged the president.

Another user posted, “Fake news strikes again. They twist EVERYTHING President Trump does into some kind of controversy.” A user joked, “LMAO. “I thought it was me as a doctor”- has to be in the top 5 most ridiculous lies he’s ever told.”

Another user quipped, “I'm not sure if 'Idiocracy' the movie was a parody.” Lastly, a user wrote, “The Red Cross... is famously known for its robes and magic.”
