'What An Awful Thing To Say': Savannah Guthrie's Brother's Remark on Mom's Kidnapping Irks Netizens
Social media users are calling out Savannah Guthrie's brother, Camron, after she shared his response to the disappearance of their 84-year-old mother, Nancy.
Almost two months after Nancy Guthrie's suspected abduction, her daughter and television presenter Savannah gave her first interview as she spoke with her close friend and Today show co-host, Hoda Kotb. A visibly emotional Savannah recalled the details from the fateful day, sharing that she felt responsible for her mother's disappearance.
She revealed that she asked her brother, Camron, if he thought the same. "I asked my brother, 'Do you think it's because of me?' He said, 'Well, I'm sorry, sweetie, but yeah, maybe.' But I knew that," Savannah told Kotb.
Social Media Users Slam Camron Guthrie's Response to Savannah
Camron's response did not fare well with social media users who were quick to slam him for his remarks. Netizens expressed their opinions about the interaction in the comments section of a post made by a news portal on X, formerly Twitter.
"Why would her brother say that?" asked one user. "Her brother could've said literally anything else," said another person. Similar sentiments were echoed by other people as well. "What an awful thing to say as a sibling," remarked a third commenter. "How messed up is her brother?" read yet another comment. "How dare her brother say this to her! As a brother, you're not supposed to make her feel bad or worse about herself," noted one person.
Savannah Guthrie was visibly emotional during her first television interview since the disappearance of her mother Nancy.
Some users on the platform defended Savannah, with one person writing, "That was awful what her brother said to her. Savannah had nothing to do with it, period." Similarly, another responder wrote, "She's already going to have trauma from this incident; her brother did NOT have to add guilt into the mix when it is 100% not her fault at all. The people at fault are the ones who kidnapped their mother. Her brother is sick for saying that."
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings appeal to their mother Nancy's abductors for the 84-year-old's safe return.
Savannah Guthrie on Mom Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance
Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Catalina Hills residence in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026. She was reported missing after she remained absent from a scheduled Church service. Despite weeks of investigation, officials have not named a suspect or made any arrests.
"We are in agony. It is unbearable. And to think of what she went through," Savannah told Kotb during the interview. "I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night, and in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now," she said.
Blaming herself for the tragedy, the NBC anchor added, "To think that I brought this to her bedside, that it's because of me. I'd just say, 'I'm so sorry, Mommy. I'm so sorry.'"
So far, officials have found some clues, including DNA evidence and possible ransom notes, two of which Savannah believes to be real. According to the BBC, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos, who is leading the case with the FBI, said that authorities think the 84-year-old may have been specifically targeted, but added that they are "not 100% sure of that."
