Trump's longevity joke came at a tense time

Two days before the royals visit, Trump, Melania, and other senior officials had to be evacuated after a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Melania was one of the first people to realize that something was wrong, saying, "That's a bad noise." Afterwards, they were rushed out by the Secret Service.

The shooting incident is not the first time that Trump's life has been in danger. And it wouldn't be amiss if Melania may have thought it was a little too soon to be joking about how long their marriage would last.

Jimmy Kimmel was called out for 'expectant widow' remark

Jimmy Kimmel also took the opportunity to crack a few jokes about the shooting at the Correspondents' Dinner. He called Melania an "expectant widow," and almost immediately the First Lady called him out.

She responded publicly and called his remark "hateful and violent rhetoric." She also said that he should be removed from his show.

Kimmel later defended his joke(George Clooney did too), saying it was a "very light roast" about "their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they're together." Trump will celebrate his 80th birthday in the summer, while Melania just turned 56.

Trump continued his speech by sharing an anecdote about his mother, Mary Anne Macleod, recalling her interest in the British royal family. He also remembered that she had a particular fondness for one of the royals.

"She really did love the family, but I also remember her saying, very clearly, 'Charles, look, young Charles, he's so cute.'" The president added,

My mother had a crush on Charles, can you believe it? I wonder what she's thinking right now!" he said.
