King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to attend a private meeting with President Donald Trump later this year to mark the 250th anniversary of United States' independence from Britain.

Ahead of their visit, the leader of Britain’s Liberal Democrats party, Ed Davey, slammed the president and urged British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to cancel the king and queen's visit to the United States.

Davey also branded Trump as a “dangerous and corrupt gangster.”

According to Mirror US, while speaking at the House of Commons, Davey raised concerns regarding Starmer and fellow British lawmakers.

The Liberal Democrats party leader pointed out the dangers that he believed Trump poses to the country’s security, asserting, “He is no friend of the United Kingdom.”

One of Davey’s biggest concerns centered on a recent warning issued by Trump to Iran, in which the president asked the Middle Eastern nation to open the Strait of Hormuz.

The president further threatened Iran by stating that a “whole civilization will die tonight” in a post on his Truth Social account.

Referring to Trump's threats to Iran, Davey said, “‘A whole civilization will die tonight.’ Words I never thought I would hear from an American president. And though Donald Trump thankfully didn’t follow through this time, these words are a stark reminder of how reckless, immoral and completely outside the bounds of international law this president is.”

“Regrettably, he is no friend of the United Kingdom. He’s no leader of the free world. He is a dangerous and corrupt gangster, and that is how we must treat him,” Davey further added.

Calling on Starmer to prevent Charles and Camilla's meeting with Trump, Davey asked, "So will the prime minister advise the King to call off his state visits to Washington before it’s too late?”

He expressed concern that such a meeting could put the monarch in a difficult situation because of what Trump might say or do.

Monarch's Visit to the U.S to Go as Planned

During his speech, Davey also addressed Trump’s plan of blockading the Strait of Hormuz, which may potentially intensify ongoing tensions further.

He insisted that the United Kingdom should not support Trump and urged Starmer to bring leaders together for a summit to present an alternative approach.

Starmer, however, has said that the monarch’s four-day visit to the United States will go as planned, despite acknowledging that Trump’s remarks about Iran were “wrong.”

The Mirror US report further states that Charles and Camilla will begin their trip on April 27, which will also include a state dinner at the White House.

It will be followed by a meeting with the families of 9/11 victims in New York. Their trip will culminate at a national park in Virginia, where they will meet Native American families.

It has also been revealed that Charles will deliver a speech to the Congress, marking the second time a British monarch has addressed American lawmakers in the chamber, after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
