Prince William and Kate Middleton Eye ‘Revenge’ Australia Tour After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Visit: ‘Australians Deserve Better’
Prince William and Princess Catherine are reportedly planning a visit to Australia in a few months, following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent trip. This has drawn attention, particularly because the Prince and Princess of Wales have not visited Australia since 2014, when they traveled with their infant son, Prince George.
Since their last visit to the country, a lot has changed in the couple's lives. They welcomed two more children, a global pandemic, Catherine's cancer diagnosis, and a royal family dynamic that has changed significantly from what they once knew.
A palace insider has revealed that the couple feel a return trip to Australia is overdue as they haven't visited the country since the birth of their firstborn. According to The News International, William and Kate are expected to visit with all three children before the year ends. As per reports, this trip is reportedly being referred to as a "revenge trip" by palace sources.
'William and Kate know that the Australian public deserves better'
According to New Idea, the palace insider revealed, "William and Kate both know that they need to give Australia a real ‘bells and whistles’ royal tour as soon as their schedule allows. William and Kate know that the Australian public deserve better. It’s their job to make it happen."
Prince William and Princess Kate are expected to visit Australia in 2026, marking their first joint trip since 2014.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's four-day trip to Australia received mixed reviews. The pair traveled through Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney, combining paid appearances with charitable engagements during their private visit. They were welcomed enthusiastically in various circles, yet their trip attracted negative criticism.
Many believed that the couple was "exploiting" their royal ties for financial profit. For context, the couple has been accused of this allegation ever since they stepped back from royal duties.
The palace insider further claimed that the Prince and Princess of Wales are "well aware" that an official tour in Australia "will take any gloss off" from Harry and Meghan's recent trip.
Why the Australia trip is important for Catherine
During his visit to the United Kingdom in September 2025, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese gave a formal invitation to William, Kate, and their children, right after King Charles and Queen Camilla's Australian tour in October 2024. The Prime Minister told the reporters, "I'm certainly hoping there will be one—there's a standing invitation that the Royal Family are always welcome in Australia."
William and Kate reportedly feel that a formal royal visit to the country is "long overdue."
This trip is especially important for Catherine as she has not taken any trips since she and William went to the Caribbean in 2022 for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. She then faced personal hardships after being diagnosed with cancer, which led her to step back from public life for most of a year. Since then, Catherine has been focused on her responsibilities and has openly expressed her desire to travel.
In 2020, William and Kate were looking forward to visiting Australia to meet with those impacted by the Black Summer bushfires, but the journey was called off because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
