Pete Hegseth slams calls reporter 'nasty' during heated Iran war briefing
Pentagon Briefing Turns Heated as Pete Hegseth Pushes Back on Reporter and Calls Question “Rude”
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth drew criticism following a tense back-and-forth with reporters at a Pentagon press conference over questions about the Iran conflict. During the briefing, the 45-year-old scolded a reporter who asked about his earlier statements..
The reporter asked, “You said the president ‘chose mercy’. But you yourself said weeks ago that ‘we will give no quarter to Iranian troops’. Do you think your comments may have put American troops at risk?” Answering, he said, “No. I try to be nice up here, but you did listen to what I said, right?”
Another reporter questioned him about the missiles still being fired. He said, “They are still firing ballistic missiles.” This irritated Hegseth, who fired at him, saying, “Excuse me. Why are you so rude? Just wait. So nasty.”

Hegseth’s behavior towards reporters drew backlash from social media users. One user said, “He is so pathetic for the move. No mercy shown to reporters…what a joke.” Another user commented, “Hegseth really isn’t smart enough to pretend he’s the smartest man in the room, and he comes off looking weak and pathetic.” A third shared, “That f—kwad calling someone else rude and nasty is just a little too much irony for today,” and one more wrote, “A defense secretary shouldn’t be easily triggered. Just saying.”
Pete Hegseth’s comment came after he supported a plan to stop the fighting organized by Pakistan. Despite liking the peace deal, he also warned that the Iran war could start again. He pointed out that the U.S. can start dropping bombs at a “moment’s notice”, as reported by The Irish Star. Given his controversial comments, many have criticized him for making it sound like the peace deal wouldn’t last very long.

After a small pause, on Wednesday, Iran sent missiles into nearby Middle East countries. This happened just before the peace deal was supposed to start. However, it remains unclear whether Iran violated the terms of the truce on purpose or if they were unaware of the truce. Both Iran and the U.S. are now trying to follow the peace rules, and the leaders of the countries are initiating talks to stop the war. Leaders have said they aim to end the conflict permanently.
This is not the first time Pete Hegseth has been called out for his behavior. According to The Guardian, his mom, in 2018, wrote an email about how he used to abuse and poorly treat women. She revealed that her son “belittles, lies, cheats, sleeps around, and uses women for his power and ego.” He also hit headlines for his chilling remark on the Iran war, saying that the groups who will threaten Americans will be “hunted down and killed.”
