Lauren Sánchez Steps In as ‘Peacemaker’ Between Melania Trump and Anna Wintour.
Lauren Sánchez Is Working Behind the Scenes to End Melania Trump and Anna Wintour's Feud — and Sources Say It Is Not Going Well
It is no secret that First Lady Melania Trump and longtime Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who stepped down from the role last year, once shared a strong bond, but the two women are no longer on speaking terms, according to reports. Though Wintour stepped down from her position last year, she continues to chair the guest list for her high-profile Met Gala.
The Trumps have not attended the event in a long time, but the latest report suggests that Jeff Bezos’ wife, Lauren Sánchez, is stepping into the role of peacemaker between the two.
According to journalist Rob Shuter, writing in his Substack newsletter, sources told him that Lauren Sánchez has been quietly working behind the scenes to end the long feud between Melania Trump and Anna Wintour, which spans both fashion and political circles. The development comes as Jeff Bezos has taken on a backing role at the Met Gala, and Sánchez has been publicly seen alongside Wintour during Paris Fashion Week. Insiders believe Sánchez views it as a rare opportunity to bring two power centers back into alignment.
A source said, “Lauren is connecting very powerful dots. She moves comfortably in both worlds — and she knows exactly who needs to be in the same room.”

The journalist notes that the presence of President Donald Trump would add another layer of interest. Along similar lines, another source said, “This is about access. It’s about staying welcome in every room that matters.”
Nonetheless, things aren’t as easy as they may sound, as the First Lady is showing no interest in Vogue and their circle. “That world just doesn’t carry the same weight for her anymore,” a source bluntly stated. Shuter's reporting, citing a source close to the first lady, noted that, claiming that she has fundamentally shifted her priorities.
Another source said that the 55-year-old is not seeking validation from “fashion insiders” and that she has “walked away from that game completely.”
In addition, a source mentioned that Lauren may be trying to patch things up between the first lady and Wintour, but the First Lady doesn’t feel the need to do so. The source said, “Melania doesn’t feel the need to make peace. From her perspective, there’s nothing to fix.” The source added that while Sánchez may continue her efforts to broker a reconciliation, but Melania is in no mood to look back.
Melania Trump appeared on the cover of Vogue in 2005.
Melania is said to be upset with Wintour for not featuring her on the cover of Vogue during her first term as the First Lady. According to a 2019 CNN interview, Wintour was asked about Vogue's approach to covering women in leadership roles.
In response to this, she said, “I think it's very, very important to have a point of view, and we profile women in the magazine that we believe in ... After the defeat of Secretary Clinton in 2016 (in particular), we believe that women should have a leadership position and we intend to support them.”
Anna Wintour's remarks on Melania Trump's fashion sparked buzz.
Though there was no direct mention of the first lady, many believed it to be a subtle dig at her. Earlier this year, Wintour spoke glowingly about Michelle Obama's fashion while giving Melania only a passing mention, which also had everyone talking.
