King Charles III Pushes ‘Reconciliation’ Message During U.S. Visit as Prince Harry, Meghan Markle Stay Absent

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s critics reacted with skepticism to King Charles after he repeatedly spoke about ‘reconciliation’ during his U.S. state visit, but did not meet with his younger son and daughter-in-law. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were also absent from the star-studded New York event where the monarch was the guest of honor.

According to RadarOnline, the coupe was reportedly not included on the guest list at the King’s Trust International gala despite rumors suggesting that Charles would have taken the opportunity of his U.S. visit to reunite with his estranged son and daughter-in-law.

Some of the attendees included Martha Stewart, Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace, Lionel Richie, and Karlie Kloss.

Former British Vogue editor Edward Enninful also attended the occasion and shared pictures with King Charles on social media handle, where he thanked the monarch for his charity’s “opened doors and changed futures” through its youth mentorship program.

Interestingly, Enninful once shared a close friendship with Meghan Markle when the latter had guest edited the September 2019 issue of British Vogue. While their relationship continued even after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the Royal Family, the equation soured after they had a fallout in 2022 regarding a disputed cover.

Meanwhile, King Charles repeatedly spoke about reconciliation in the gala, which took place on April 29, 2026, but did not attempt to do so with his younger son and daughter-in-law.

Speaking to a joint session of Congress ahead of America’s 250th anniversary, Charles highlighted reconciliation between the U.K. and the U.S., calling it ‘one of the greatest alliances in human history.’

He also preached the same message at the White House state dinner, the same evening, stating, “The story of Britain and America is one of reconciliation." However, Charles and Harry’s strained relationship appears far from reconciliation.

Reddit users poked fun at the fact that, despite preaching about “reconciliation,” King Charles made no efforts to reconcile with his son, even though the monarch was just a five-hour plane ride away from California.

One of the users wrote, “Now they’re just trolling the Harkles. King Charles talks of reconciliation. Just not THAT one.” Another one commented, “Yes, well, the U.S./U.K. relationship is actually valuable. So reconciliation is actually important. Can't say the same of certain other potential reconciliations, where one particular party is made up of two useless muppets.”

A Redditor chimed in, “This royal visit is almost certainly going to tank Harkle prospects even further and faster. It's clear they have no real royal connection. Harry might as well not exist.”

Taking a dig at Harry’s statement, where he said that he was born into the Royal Family to serve the people, a Reddit user added, “Now, HE was born to do this work. I hope Haz is taking notes. I am here working, doing the things that I was born to do."

This “snub” of the Sussexes seems to be the final nail in the coffin when it comes to the chances of King Charles mending his equation with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
