Kim Kardashian Asked for $1 After Believing She Was 'Going To Die’ Robbery
It has been nearly a decade since Kim Kardashian was tied up and robbed at gunpoint inside a Paris hotel room, and the reality star says that it has shaped how she lives today.
Kardashian was asked about how much civil damages she wanted from the defendants. She asked the French civil court for a token amount of one euro — roughly $1.17 — in symbolic damages from the gang convicted of stealing millions of dollars worth of jewelry from her during Paris Fashion Week in 2016, reports The Mirror US.
She spoke during the hearing in a Paris court, and shared that the impact that the robbery had on her was not only financial. It was this emotional trauma that she spoke about when she faced the "Grandpa Robbers," as the French news media dubbed them.
"I forgive you for what has taken place," Kardashian said in court after ringleader Aït Khedache sent her a written apology. “But it doesn't change the emotion and the feelings and the trauma, the way my life is forever changed.”

Kardashian previously told the Paris court she believed she would not survive the attack after eight masked men stormed her hotel suite while she was alone.
“I was certain that was the moment that he was going to rape me,” Kardashian testified earlier this month. “I absolutely did think I was going to die.”
The SKIMS founder recalled how she tried to protect herself by pleading with the robbers and telling the concierge to translate for her.
“I have babies,” she pleaded with them. “I have to make it home. They can take everything. I just have to make it home.”
They tied her hands with zip ties, taped her mouth and stole more than $6 million worth of jewelry, including the 18.88-carat engagement ring from her then-husband Kanye West.
After the robbers left, Kardashian escaped the bathroom where she had been locked up and tied and then reunited with her stylist Simone Harouche who later testified in court that Kardashian repeatedly cried, “Take everything. I need to live.”
Kim Kardashian's Paris robbery changed celebrity security forever
Kim Kardashian becomes emotional when talking about the Paris robbery.
After everything went down, investigators found out that the men, who were convicted late last year, tracked Kardashian's movements through social media posts, geotags, and online updates during Paris Fashion week. At the time, Kardashian was one of the most followed celebrities online.
When they made that announcement, it changed everything within the celebrity safety and online visibility space.
After the heist, many publicists and celeb security teams now advise clients to delay social media uploads and tell them that they need to avoid posting real-time locations online as they can be easily tracked by followers.
Kardashian said that after the robbery she became anxious. “I started to get this phobia of going out,” she testified. “This experience really changed everything for us.”
She shared that she now sleeps with security guards outside her home and she no longer feels safe enough to travel without protection.
Kardashian's stylist, Simone Bretter, also asked for one euro in damages at the hearing. However, a hotel employee who had a gun held against his head wanted €550,000 ($638,446) in damages.
The judges will only make their ruling on civil damages later this year.
For Kardashian, however, the courtroom appearance was about more than money.
“This is my closure,” she told the court. “This is me putting this, hopefully, to rest.”
