Karoline Leavitt has had several high-profile slip-ups at the podium.
Karoline Leavitt Called Trump 'President Chump' and Asked About 'Grocery Pump' Prices — Her Briefing Slip-Ups Keep Going Viral
Karoline Leavitt was appointed White House press secretary at 27, becoming the youngest person to hold the role. Leavitt's evolution over the years has been impressive.
In a recent interview with Erika Kirk, she talked about her demanding job and how President Trump calls her at any hour of the night and sleeps as little as four hours. She also used the word "crazy" to describe Trump's late-night schedule and his habit of calling staff at all hours.
Karoline Leavitt achieved outstanding grades in college and has remained steadfast in her public endorsement of Trump. In an interview with The Daily Signal, Leavitt praised Trump's enthusiasm for young people. However, ever since she joined the role, Leavitt has garnered attention for various reasons, be it her salary as Trump's press secretary or occasional slip-ups.
From confrontations with journalists to sharing misleading information as truths, her tongue-tied moments have often raised questions about her conduct.
Three moments in particular have drawn the most attention to Leavitt's verbal missteps.
Stephen Colbert slamming Karoline Leavitt for trying to cover up Donald Trump’s blunders.
1- 'Under President Chump, America will....'
The press secretray made a notable verbal error during a briefing following U.S. military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites.
In June 2025, Leavitt mistakenly referred to the president as "President Chump."
The press secretary began her briefing by discussing how Trump and his team responded aggressively to the assaults on Iranian facilities and destroyed them. It was during that moment that she made the mistake, per the Irish Star.
"Under President Chump, America will relentlessly advance our own interests without being in endless wars," she stated. This isn't the first time that Leavitt has incorrectly taken her boss's name.
2- 'Grocery Pump'
In February 2025, Leavitt's verbal slip during a press briefing spread rapidly on social media. Fox Business correspondent Edward Lawrence asked Leavitt when prices would come down, saying, "So now that President Trump's policies are starting to take shape, how long will it take to cycle through and get some of the actual prices that Americans are paying to come down?"
Leavitt appeared to mix up her words, asking, "Prices at the store and at the grocery pump?" On social media, the phrase “grocery pump” gained a unique significance. Online commenters ridiculed the phrase, with one commenting, "But "on day one..."!! Trump told us "I won on groceries. Very simple word, groceries...We're going to bring those prices way down." I want my prices at the "grocery pump" to go down NOW! I can't afford the eggs I need to put into my tank."
One viral moment involved Leavitt mistakenly referring to "prices at the store and the grocery pump."
3- 'Fighting law and order'
A month later, in March, at White House press briefing, Leavitt once again made an error by confidently stating that President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice will prioritize “fighting law and order” instead of “fighting for law and order.” The slip drew amused reactions on X
One user said, "How does she say this s--- with a straight face?" Another wrote, "fighting law and order" -- I think that pretty accurately describes what the DOJ under Donald Trump is doing. Thanks, Karoline."
HuffPost reported the error occurred after Rachel Scott of ABC News asked about potential DOJ investigations into Jan. 6 committee members
