JD Vance Mocked for ‘Weird’ Analogy as He Brings Wife Usha Into Iran Debate
Vice President JD Vance recently used an analogy involving his wife, Usha Vance, to address the ceasefire with Iran. The comparison didn’t sit well with internet users who questioned the need to mention the Second Lady, despite her not being part of the discussion. The exchange took place as Vance returned from Hungary and interacted with reporters before boarding Air Force Two.
According to The List, JD Vance was preparing to board the flight at Budapest, Hungary, on April 8, when a reporter asked him about the Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s statement about Iran’s ceasefire agreement with the United States. In response, he said he found Ghalibaf’s claims “fascinating” as he pointed out that they refuse to “give up the right to enrichment.”

He went on to explain his point by citing an example, mentioning his wife and the Second Lady, Usha Vance. He added, “I thought to myself, you know what, my wife has the right to skydive, but she doesn’t jump out of an airplane, because she and I have an agreement that she’s not going to do that, because I don’t want my wife jumping out of an airplane.”
Vance then clarified his point, insisting, “We don’t really concern ourselves with what they claim they have the right to do. We concern ourselves with what they actually do.”

The analogy didn’t land well, as the internet users were quick to mock the Vice President soon after the video clip of his conversation went viral online. A user wrote, “Trying to understand analogy. Is it just me or others are lost too ?” Another user added, “W** does that mean? Maybe he should have used an analogy of something that he has an intimate knowledge of.”
While a third user said, “That analogy doesn't even make sense. We are not partners with Iran, we are adversaries. Hey Vance, use your skydiving analogy on Bibi. He’s the one who talked Trump into jumping out of the plane without a parachute.”

One more weighed in, “Citing his wife in this situation is ridiculous yet concerning.” One more user slammed him, expressing, “What? Skydive? No better analogy than skydive? Guess it’s a norm from the guy who had issues ordering donuts during the campaign.”
Meanwhile, according to CNBC, Ghalibaf accused the US of violating a two-week ceasefire in a long statement posted on his X. He wrote, “The deep historical distrust we hold toward the United States stems from its repeated violations of all forms of commitments — a pattern that has regrettably been repeated once again.”
The Iranian parliament speaker claimed that three parts of the country’s 10-point ceasefire proposal have already been broken. He argued that Israel’s continued strikes in Lebanon, a drone entering Iranian airspace, and the “denial of Iran’s right to enrichment.” On a concluding note, Ghalibaf proclaimed that “In such a situation, a bilateral ceasefire or negotiations is unreasonable.”
Meanwhile, Vance acknowledged that ceasefires are “messy,” further insisting that the ceasefire extending to Lebanon was never part of the agreement. He also mentioned that the US believes that Iran should not be allowed to enrich uranium.
