After successfully battling breast cancer in 2005, Kylie Minogue was diagnosed with cancer for the second time in 2021.

However, after previously speaking candidly about her initial cancer battle, the Australian pop star kept her second diagnosis hidden.

According to Minogue, as the press frenzy surrounding her first cancer ordeal left her overwhelmed, she decided to keep things under wraps the second time.

Kylie Minogue has spoken about her second cancer diagnosis.

Minogue shared details about her second cancer battle in the Netflix documentary, Kylie, which was released on Wednesday, May 20.

“My second cancer diagnosis was in early 2021,” Minogue said, adding, “I was able to keep that to myself… Not like the first time.”

Minogue noted that while she initially wished to speak about her second diagnosis, she eventually struggled to find “the right time” to disclose.

The singer noted, “I don’t feel obliged to tell the world, and actually I just couldn’t at the time because I was just a shell of a person.”

She continued, “I didn’t want to leave the house again at one point. Padam Padam opened so many doors for me, but on the inside, I knew that cancer wasn’t just a blip in my life.”

Minogue mentioned how she procrastinated on disclosing her diagnosis.

“I really just wanted to say what happened so I can let go of it. I’d sit through and every opportunity I thought, ‘Now’s the time,’ but I kept it to myself,” she stated.

Further, Minogue stated that the way she suffered enormous press intrusion during her first diagnosis, it sort of held her back from sharing it during the second time.

She assured her fans that she is doing fine currently and have once again battled cancer successfully. She said, “Thankfully, I got through it. Again. And all is well.”

Why Kylie Minogue Postponed Treatment After Her First Cancer Diagnosis

Later during the documentary, as Minogue reflected on her first cancer battle in 2005, she mentioned pushing back her treatment in order to try to conceive.

She claimed to have tried IVF “a few times,” while dealing with cancer.

"There’s so much more to cancer than just, you had it, you got through it, you’re fine… or you’re fine for now,” Minogue said.

“I was 36 when I got my diagnosis, so already you need to be thinking about children. So I did try, I even postponed my chemotherapy to try,” she added.

She admitted that while delaying cancer treatment was “quite scary at the time, because you just want it… out, gone,” Minogue noted that the hope of having kids is what pushed her to the brink.

“I did try a few times with IVF, always with such a thread of hope,” she said.

The singer even pondered what it would feel like had she been able to conceive.

“If it had happened, it would have been just shy of a miracle, but it didn’t work out that way,” Minogue said.

In the end, she found peace in acceptance and knowing that “it wasn’t my path.”
