Gavin Newsom Torches JD Vance, Says He ‘Keeps Lying’ Amid Welfare Fraud Allegations
Recently speaking with Fox News host, Kayleigh McEnany, Vice President JD Vance touched upon the issue of fraud in several American states, including California.
He said federal investigators could soon uncover criminal wrongdoing linked to alleged taxpayer-funded welfare fraud.
However, after Vance's comments drew attention, California Governor Gavin Newsom responded with an X post.
He pushed back against the accusations and claimed that Vance “keeps lying” about things related to California.

JD Vance and Gavin Newsom have clashed repeatedly in recent months, but their feud intensified after the Vice President said that the Trump administration’s anti-fraud task force is looking into whether government officials enabled the alleged fraud.
This led the California governor to immediately respond on X, saying that “JD keeps lying about California's aggressive fight against fraud.”
Previously, Newsom’s office had stated that the governor recognized concerns about fraud and had shown openness to cooperating with federal authorities to address the issue.
But later on, in a separate response to Vance, Newsom wrote, “We've walked the walk with nation-leading fraud prevention and have protected billions. Meanwhile, JD's boss is pardoning convicted fraudsters and literally stuffing his pockets with YOUR tax dollars.”
Meanwhile, since this feud has been going on for a while, Newsom had previously accused the Trump administration of running half of these frauds themselves.
In April, Newsom posted on X, “The Trump Administration — home to the biggest fraudsters on Earth — is trying to blame California for issues with THEIR federal programs.”
He continued, “Glad to see the Feds finally taking seriously the fraud in the programs they themselves manage...only 15 months after Trump took office.”

Meanwhile, speaking with Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany, JD Vance announced that the Trump administration is looking into the alleged taxpayer-funded welfare fraud, and warned that anyone who covered up the abuse "ought to go to prison.”
“I guarantee there's [going to] be some criminal wrongdoing that we're [going to] find, because there's so much wrongdoing, somebody had to know what they were doing,” Vance said.
“When I hear about a report that says to the governor, 'Here's all this fraud,' and he doesn't do anything about it, I ask myself, 'Was anybody engaged in criminal wrongdoing?’”
Vance concluded, “I am [going to] promise the American people we're going to look into that stuff, we're [going to] investigate it, and we're [going to] take it seriously. Because if there was criminal wrongdoing, then people ought to go to prison for it.”
Vance's discussion with McEnany came days after he revealed a $1.3 billion delay in Medicaid funding for California, a move tied to his leadership of the newly formed anti-fraud task force, which he says aims to recover taxpayer money for Americans facing financial hardship.
