Gavin Newsom Slams Trump After Karoline Leavitt’s Psychedelic Policy Fact Sheet Sparks Confusion
President Donald Trump, on Saturday, instructed his administration to speed up reviews of psychedelic dr*gs, such as ibogaine, which has recently gained support among combat veterans and right-leaning lawmakers despite its significant safety concerns.
After the announcement, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt proudly shared a "fact sheet" informing that the President is "accelerating medical treatments for serious mental illness." This comes amid constant debates over the President's mental condition, as per reports. California Governor Gavin Newsom took a direct jibe at Leavitt's message and wrote on X, "For himself?"
The controversy erupted on Saturday when Donald Trump issued an executive order instructing the US Food and Dr*g Administration to expedite the evaluation of drugs like ibogaine. The US military veterans have claimed that the drug may help treat "post-traumatic stress disorder."

According to Al Jazeera, Trump highlighted that this will “dramatically accelerate access to new medical research and treatments based on psychedelic drugs". Leavitt garnered attention after taking to X to highlight President Donald Trump’s endorsement of psychedelic drugs, though the wording may suggest a considerably different meaning.
Karoline Leavitt's X post praising Trump
The Press Secretary, who is often criticized for backing Trump, took to X and wrote, “Fact Sheet: President Donald J. Trump is Speeding Up Medical Treatments for Severe Mental Illness.” She also shared a link to the fact sheet.
According to The Daily Beast, the Press Secretary's 'fact sheet' invited mockery from Gavin Newsom, which comes amid the President's increasingly unpredictable behavior after the Iran war. "On his behalf?" California Governor Gavin Newsom, who often questions the President openly, responded to Leavitt’s post on X.
However, Gavin Newsom's comment for President didn't sit well with White House spokesman Davis Ingle, who told The Daily Beast, “Only sc--gs like Gavin Newsom would attempt to mock President Trump for signing an Executive Order that will accelerate access to treatments for veterans and other Americans who are struggling.”
President Trump signed an executive order to fast-track research into psychedelic drugs for mental health.
'Going to have a tremendous impact'
The order, to fast-track psychedelic drug research, was signed in the Oval Office with federal health officials, advocates, and podcaster Joe Rogan in attendance. Trump remarked, “In many cases, these experimental treatments have shown life-changing potential for those suffering from severe mental illness and depression, including our cherished veterans."
"If these turn out to be as good as people are saying, it's going to have a tremendous impact," he added.
During the ceremony, conservative podcaster Marcus Luttrell told the President that he is going to save a lot of lives with the dr*g. "It absolutely changed my life for the better", he added.
Earlier too, Newsom strongly condemned Donald Trump regarding his two prominent projects: a gold statue centerpiece for his proposed presidential library and the launch of the 'OnlyFarms.gov' website.
Newsom likened the statue to those of authoritarian leaders and argued that the website’s branding highlighted misplaced priorities during economic challenges. These criticisms are coming amid Trump facing heightened scrutiny over his other large-scale, visually-driven projects.
