Ever since her husband, right-wing activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination in September 2025, Erika Kirk’s behavior has been under constant scrutiny during her public appearances. The internet immediately started noticing red flags in her frequent public appearances in flashy outfits, heavy makeup, and pyrotechnics.

Her tears and pensive expression was also labeled as theatrics by many while some critics found her stepping into her husband’s shoes as the TPUSA CEO shortly after his death to be problematic. Now, reportedly, her this public persona might have heavily backfired on her and she, along with her closed ones are realizing the same.

Kirk skipping the recent TPUSA event citing security reasons also raised a lot of eyebrows on social media. Social media users questioned her inability to attend the event when JD Vance made it as an integral part of the occasion.

Candace Owens accuses Erika Kirk of allegedly skipping the event due to poor ticket sales

Former TPUSA communications director, Candace Owens, also lashed out at Erika Kirk on X. Owens wrote, “You pulled out because of bad ticket sales. People don't believe you and don't line up for you because you struggle to tell the truth about even the most basic facts."

The criticism grew stronger after pictures went viral from the TPUSA event, where one could spot several empty seats. An X user added, “The turnout [is] less than local church services. Risks seem low/nonexistent?"

Even though the vice president tried his best to be a good replacement and even took a strong dig at the critics slamming the former Miss Arizona, she seemed to lack that confidence.

An insider close to the former reality TV star told the Daily Mail, “It was a mental exhaustion of like, 'nothing I do will be right, people will make fun,' so she cancelled.”

Social media user points out the lukewarm response to the TPUSA event.

However, this stood in contrast to Kirk’s profound confidence when she hosted Karoline Leavitt on behalf of Fox 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul. In an attempt to showcase a brave face amid the constant trolling and scrutiny, she told the White House Press Secretary, “And actually, quite frankly, I really do not care. I am actually really busy right now playing Magna-Tiles."

Reports state that Erika’s own decisions, especially surrounding this public persona, might have heavily backfired on her. Her expressions and body language are said to have left people confused, as many social media users do not find her emotions genuine.

Erika’s touching JD Vance’s hair during a rather intimate hug at a TPUSA event in October last year paved the way for affair rumors. Even though she rubbished the same citing that touching someone’s hair while hugging them is her “love language.”

After this, a few months later, Erika’s video with Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders alarmed the internet where many social media users called her disingenuous.

While it is inevitable that the TPUSA CEO might be irked by the constant scrutiny around her behavior and personality, some social media users are still confused about her actions.

A Reddit user shared last year in September, “I have been feeling bad about my thoughts of not trusting her presence and speech yesterday but for me her energy is as many here described, fake and creepy."
